U.S. Club Soccer's ECNL has modeled itself after USSF's USSDA program.

USSDA has mandated a nationwide ban on high school soccer beginning in 2012-13.

To date, ECNL has left the decision regarding high school soccer in the hands of each ECNL club. However, that being said, it is not unreasonable to expect ECNL to ban high school nationwide in the future.
I like how people keep "assuming" about ECNL. The ECNL commissioner was at the meeting. She said we do NOT tell our clubs how they are to be run. She also said most clubs in the ECNL play high school.

Now you can "assume" all you like but these are the facts.

This is a moot point. If you want to play on an ECNL team and also play high school soccer then go to one of the other clubs. If you don't like the rules, you are free to move on. Now stop whining and get over it. Maybe you should hope you even have this Delima as tryouts are going to be tough.

It's a moot point that CFK has decided to do something that most other clubs are not and people are justifying it by suggesting that ECNL will soon mandate it? Obviously you have no reading comprehension which explains the reaching when evidence points to the contrary.

Your correct with your statement but she also said that they don't because the seasons vary based on the state. When fl plays HS soccer is more of a problem then the leagues. Put ECNL aside and just look at State/Region Cup, with the HS season extending as far as February and FHSAA mandate that you can not train or play club unless approved during that season is just as big an issue.

College REcruiters don't attend HS games unless they are local school. I was at the Julie Weber tournament this past winter and I saw 2-3 scouts at most and all were local.

The other factor is the level of competition. There are some very good teams and players but they are pretty spread out. The risk of injury to an elite player is too great of a risk imo. This of course assumes that they player wants to play at the next level, which is what ECNL is built for, getting those players the exposure.

I like GB. Good guy and coach. But, with all due respect...he should not be coaching his son's age group, if that is what you are implying by training the little ones. That age group will already be viewed by some as having a level of subjectivety when it comes to placement of kids as the kids in his son's age group get older (since he is one of the Directors).

Seasons vary? It's a 10 month season. If they banned high school it would be easier to schedule. My niece plays for GSA 16 out of Atlanta and they were done by January. They play high school starting in February. Clubs have 10 months to schedule less than 10 weekends of soccer. That's got to be pretty tough considering you can even play your league games at the showcase events.

It is inevitable that USCS/ECNL will eventually mandate a high school soccer ban.

In the meantime, make a choice: OCYS ECNL (if successful at tryouts) or high school soccer.

                End of story, period.

Unless your kid is on the team then why would you care? If the parents on the team feel like things are good and equitable then why make it an issue. Most coaches coach their kids. Hell, even Bob Bradley was coaching his son on the National team for several years. In my own experience with coaching my kids (and probably most coaches who coach their kids), I was harder on mine then anybody elses kids. Sometimes it doesn't work, but his boys team is very good and has had great success. They don't seem to have parent issues and as long as he can separate his personal feelings for his son when it comes to coaching who really cares. He's a great coach and as far as I can tell, a good person. People on this site go way overboard with the personal attacks about players and coaches who in many cases, they know very little about.

I understand the high school ban for those that play in the ECNL/DA but why not let them play State cup. Sounds like the ECNL season is pretty much finished in Jan. State cup is only 7-8 games tops. And it's against the best compition in the state.

Because HM says so. You will play or not play when he says so!!

Here's why DA won't play in State Cup:

"To maintain a focus on training, Academy teams do not play in any other leagues, tournaments, State Cup competitions, ODP or All-Star events without written permission from Academy staff."

                          High school sports ban

Does the ban extend past soccer to include track and cross country?

If you prohibit high school soccer should you not ban other sports that result in over use injuries beyond high school soccer?

Yes. They are not going to be allowed to participate in any other sport outside of their DA or ECNL team.

Uh-oh, now you've "opened a can of worms".

And here's another one: kid attends a private high school based on an athletic/soccer scholarship. What's THAT kid supposed to do? Switch to a public high school?

Here's what they do... they elect to play on a non-ECNL/DA team and quit sniveling about it. Up until just a few days ago, folks were clamoring to play on R3PL/ state cup level teams. Now a new shiny coin is flashed in front of folks and they automatically assume they are entitled to participate in the league despite the rules that are set up either by the club or the league. Get over yourselves.
