Well, OCYS first has to be attractive for reasons other than "it's big". For girls, yes- ECNL play will attract some really good players for the limited spots that will be available. But for the average player, OCYS will not necessarily be the choice. Kids who play at Maitland are there for a reason. Same with Rush. They've chosen those clubs because they prefer the management and the environment and I bet most of them stay. -

Getting an invitation to U.S. Club Soccer's ECNL is one thing...getting accepted as an Academy program for U.S. Soccer is an entirely different "can of worms".Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
The central Florida area is "on the radar" for a future USSDA program. But OCYS has "it's work cut out for it" before it achieves such status.
Unlike CFK's girls' soccer, CFK's history with boys' soccer hasn't been anything to "write home to mom about." And OCYS hasn't yet had the first minute of match play.
In the recent past, FL Rush, with some pretty potent teams and success tried -and failed - for USSDA.
OCYS may well be a USSDA program in the future, but those who think it's a "given", based on the presence of OCS and OCYS' recent ECNL accomplishment, are in for a rude awakening.Comment

Are the rumors that Rush is joining OCYS this year true? We were planning to go to Rush this year for tryouts and wonder if this is true how it is going to work with the distance between the clubs.Comment

People for the most choose where to play for location. If you are very good then yes you travel for the caliber of the top team (ECNL) but thats 18 kids per age group for girls.Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
If you live in windermere and aren't in the top 15 for your age group in girls then why travel to Lake Mary to get the same training that Rush offers? Remember os of right now its the same medicore coaches from cfk and fsa for the 2nd and lower teams. But you can 100% sure that OCYS will cost more than any other club in town for all levels of play.
OCYS will get the most kids at tryouts thats a fact, as they should for girls try to make the top team but if you don't then you will see the kids staying closer to home.Comment

ECNL clubs typically have an ECNL team and a State Cup team. Many of those second or State Cup teams play in Region III, CASL, Disney etc. and do very well against our top State Cup teams. I don't see OC being any different when it comes to second teams as this area has a lot of talent. The days of certain teams changing clubs when things aren't going as "coach" wants it to go are changing.Comment

It will come down to who coaches those teams and the travel costs as well as the club fees.
All those things will determine to a family where to go. If your daughter is not a starter on the 2nd team then why travel all that way and possibly pay more in fees to sit when you can stay closer to home and play.
Lets face it in reality all the money parents spend on soccer is wasted if its to get a scholarship. Take the money you spend per year and put it into an account and it will be more than the child will get in scholarship money. Most scholarships are tied to academics so they will use brightfutures with pell grants and the schlorship might cover books and lodging for a year.
Also what are the numbers on scholarships for ECNL players? how deep does it go per team?
All the promises of scholarships are amusing when you conasider the amount of kids paying to be on top teams across the state.
Would love to see a breakdown of scholarship money's per club received as opposed to money's spent to be on the team.Comment
