Scituate beats a hapless Classical 7-0. Lets start bashing the Scituate coach now.?

Did not see the game. Common sense would need to dictate. If they were pounding them at the half and the same kids who had already scored went in for the second half and scored more, that would be no better than the other coach who had been criticized.

If you look at the overall records of Situate and MB (or any team in Div 2) there are not many games with many scores like this.

The upper 1/2 of D2 is actually very competitive with much less points spreads in most games.

So if in one game, one forward scores 3-4 goals and in most that forward scores 1-2 if any,
I'd hardly call this a problem.

The problem is the bottom schools of D2 that have been the bottom for years should drop down and the top schools of D3 that have been the top for years should move up. Lets not pick on any team for one (or two) games with a bigger point spread.

to a point you can't fault a lopsided score since stronger programs will have a multitude of kids who are better than the weaker talent. YOU ABSOLUTELY SHOULD FAULT THE COACHES WHEN TOP KIDS ARE ALLOWED TO PLAY AND SCORE IN THE SECOND HALF TO RACK UP POINTS!!!! Every team has upperclassmen who get used sparingly that could be put on the front lines, or at least rotate the defenders to the front for a share of the limelight!

Well said. I could not agree more. Let the other talent stretch the score out if need be. Besides, like the poster said, heaven forbid a coach in RI high school soccer actually have their players try other positions to become more well-rounded.

Yes, fair point. 7 to 0 is respectable given the disparity and if, as noted above, the coach is rotating in non-starters, etc.

Coaches, yes - but I also blame Principals and AD. Why no mercy rule where after say 8 goal differential, the goals no longer count toward the final score (i would say stop play but I understand given the costs and the fact some kids don't play much in competitive matches then they should have an opportunity to play).

Blame RIIL/PCOA - the divisional alignment system is a joke; should be 4 divisions but even so, no reason why you shouldn't go back to the 3A/3B and make D2 more competitive by bringing Johsnton/EP/Lincoln up and pushing Rays/Classical down.

There will always be a the bottom dwellers, but they can do a much better job instead of letting the Principals have veto say.

Uh oh... Burrillville beat a hapless Tiverton 6-1. I certainly hope the coach played his subs to prevent all the snowflakes on here from getting their feelings hurt. We should probably allow the bottom dwellers in each division put plywood up in the goal to prevent goals so nobody can see a lopsided score.

Nobody got to score more than 2 goals last night for Burrillville, with scoring being spread out and subs playing extensively. Still lopsided, absolutely, but not a beating by the most dominant players.

Last poster is obviously clueless to the rationale behind the intelligent recent posts. A lopsided score is almost inevitable, but it is how it is attained that matters, including teaching sportsmanship to both teams. Kids on your squad who don't start get rewarded with extra minutes and opportunities, while the weaker team doesn't get humiliated. Winning is the goal in any varsity sport, but how you do it should carry as much weight.

Ok snowflake, Im sure the Tiverton girls were discussing how no Burr player scored more than 2 goals and that made them feel very safe and warm. Give the Tiverton girls a trophy and make everyone feel great about themselves.

Good irrational viewpoint. I can virtually guarantee that your own child hates you.

I've seen teams come back from 4-0 deficits at halftime, particularly in cases with wind, bad pitched fields and injuries. I'd have no problem keeping the top scorer in to get it to 5-0 with 20 minutes remaining before substituting out the stars for the night.
