This wall discussed earlier. It is possible to dominate a game and not win ya know? Soccer is tricky like that.

The only thing that matters if who's on top at the end. In a two month season, coaches will have to experiment and give the players on the roster a chance to prove themselves. No one wins the state title based on the second half of the third game. Coaches need to give the players a chance to excel, or fail. I suspect when you have a roster of 20 talented players that even when you know the best 11 players that you truly never know who the 11 that play best together.

Barrington has been playing that way because they are frustrated that they are consistently outmatched on skill level against every team they play (with the exception of Bayview) so they do what they can to get some advantage. Smithfield does have a very skilled team so I'm surprised to see them play that way. Are they that insecure about winning on skill? Shame on the refs for not calling it more often.

Smithfield supporters won't agree or admit it, but everyone else should catch a Smithfield game and see what I mean.
This is precisely why RI teams do so poorly outside of RI. Everywhere else in the soccer world the players are ultra physical and steamroll past the RI teams, while the RI parents cry bloody murder. Soccer is a contact sport and if you're trying to score and you're up against a big, fast defender you had better be ready to take a hard tackle. Like a previous poster stated, go watch a MA HS game and come back and let me know what you find. Or a College match for that matter.

The game is as much about establishing what will or won't be tolerated by referee dujour. The team doesn't have to throw the elbow or be physical, but certainly needs to understand that is part of the game and know how to deal with it. Have your daughter take up dance if you can't except that.
I understand that it is part of the game, in any game. I can "except" it if it is the exception and not the rule. But when a team builds a foundation on that style of play, their players don't learn anything. For that style of play, you can bring in a monkey...or even you...to coach the team. You don't need a qualified coach to teach that.

By style of play, I am inferring you mean dirty play. If a team builds their foundation on "that style of play" they won't last very long. I'd argue that you build your foundation on technical skills and have players that can execute tactically. Pulling a jersey or grabbing an arm or using your body to gain an angle are all part of the game and are not a style of play.

              You're making my point.

I agree. It shouldn't be done so often that it literally becomes a style of play. Thanks for making my point.

Sad that you have to post negative things about a girls high school soccer team

Cumberland gets it done, 2-1. Both goals for JR of whom some idiot last year claimed she wasn't an elite player because basketball was her first sport.

Cumberland 2-1 over Smithfield. Both teams played great. Very equal which made for an interesting game. JR epitomizes the word "elite", no doubt.

NK is looking lit this year. I will be thoroughly perplexed if they don't walk away with the title.

No way. A lot of their wins have been luck. Lasalle, cumberland, smithfield and mt. hope are all better teams.

Well she doesn't do it alone, she is only as good as the other 10 girls on the field.
