Odp is a waste of money.

This didn't happen! And the issue isn't practice as one poster wrote its the ODP event schedule conflicts with npl events schedule.

Or, the NPL events schedule conflicts with the ODP event schedule. NPL schedule should be changed.

This email did not go out. But I would welcome an email telling teams when Fall training begins and which nights are for which age groups. This used to happen at club night. Communication and organization is not strong suit of this club.

We are receiving plenty of communication from Bayside. 4 emails in a week and practice info. Nothing about ODP. I wish we would get clear direction on that.

                  us club and ODP

An individual player can register and with his or her state association to be eligible to participate in odp. Thus a child absolutely may participate in usysa ODP without his or her club or team participating in usysa events and without the club/team issuing a usysa card to him or her. This in fact happens all the time when ECNL players whose clubs do not also participate in usysa at their ages. Some us club (ECNL/ NPL pre DA) players are already duel carded if they play on more than one roster in their clubs. But it is absolutely ok and a well know phenomenon. I know of at least one ECNL club that sends out an email to tell its players who want to play ODP how to go about the process. Originally this player card probably came into existence to encourage rec kids who are not generally carded to participate, but now generally serves a different purpose.

Is there a definitive answer as to whether NENPL players can participate in ODP this year. I know there were alot of questions at the tryouts in August.

Any player can participate in ODP. I'd doesn't matter if your kid plays in USYS. USCS. super liga. Or doesn't play at all. There is conflict with Rider Cup (ODP tournament) and NPL finals. So it's a players decision if it's worth it if you can't go to the ODP tournament because of NPL finals. I don't think that your club coach would be too happy if you choose to go to Rider rather than NPL finals. IMO. ODP is all about the regional camp anyways. So if the camp doesn't conflict. It's worth it.

                            camp problem?

What is the problem with the camp? I agree its the whole reason to participate for many of the better players. other reasons exist for the weaker players.

The problem is his kid didn't get chosen at camp

The camp is a tremendous life lesson for many kids. Some learn the lesson that you don't always get what you want. Some learn that if you don't keep the intensity up what was once a gimme can be taken away. Others learn if at first you don't succeed, sometimes you can still make it happen next time.

The list posting strategy is brutal. Kids are crying, others are angry and the successful ones are trying to pretend that they don't care. And this happens at least twice/day. My kids have been variably successful through the year. Enough that they keep subjecting themselves to the pain. I encourage it because I think there are some real life lessons in it. Would I encourage it if they had no chance at regional pool. Not sure I would year after year, but I think the overall experience is valuable. Wonder how many calls state and regional officials get from parents of kids who made it in previous years and then don't make it subsequently.

Much gamesmanship can be had up there. I heard of a girl who twice showed up to the id training group telling the coaches that it was a mistake that she wasn't listed. They let her stay and train She was ultimately included in the pool...
