I have never understood SRI's insistence on playing these games so early. The teams haven't had time to gel through competition; it's cold; the fields are in awful condition and then all of the State Cup games are finished weeks ahead of regionals and the competitive season is done and the teams go cold with no real competition. Other states backload these games in May and June so that teams go into regionals with recent, hi-level competition.

Absolutely and not a new sentiment..and add the fact that for some of the premier (or I guess even now some of the town programs) in MAPLE you are still playing on a MAPLE game and I think NEP plays up to the same weekend as semis/finals...why not play the same weekend (semis/finals) as Mass?

There should be no final round (semis/finals) until June and no early round before May.

so let's face the reality of the deference for whatever reason to superliga and RI cup..which seems strange given there is almost no overlap between any teams in state cup (in reality) and superliga..

I see Bruno U13 girls tied Ocean State. Must be hard to recruit when you can't beat town associations. Looks like Lusitana U12 girls lost to Smithfield Strikers U11 too.

That is RI Strikers U11. RI Strikers are not a town team as they draw from multiple towns across the State. Wish people would get the facts before posting AND wish RI Strikers would create a separate identity from Smithfield.

Did the Bayside FC South GU12 team really beat the Superliga South County GU12 1-0?

I think someone is in for a rough time in the NEP Premiership. Tell me it was a forfeit.

Next year they will be called Bayside Northwest or the RI Bayside Strikers.

whatever, it's still a U11 team with mostly players from one town beating a u12 premier team

The town rule is 4 from SRI so does the U11 team pull from more than 4 town??

4 community rule only applies to non-premier teams; you are right in that some people think it is a "superliga" rule so town teams in MAPLE for example are exempt - not true.

"Limits apply to U14 teams and below. Limits do NOT apply to U15 teams and above.
Limits do not apply to Recreational, Indoor, Tournament, and SRI Member Premier Club
teams or to any nonstandard soccer. "

I think SRI pulled a fast one a couple of years ago as it used to not apply to "premier teams" and premier teams were ones in "premier leagues" -- but when town teams started getting into MAPLE, SRI chose to change the wording instead of rewarding the few town programs that were actually looking to up their programs. What's that about doing "what's good for the game and good for player development"? It's like the state in general -- we wonder why RI is not competitive relative to our neighbors and all you have to look at is the rules are shaped to benefit the few at the expense of the greater good.

If this rule was truly about the "little town" programs, the rule would be something like a 2 town rule and definitely apply to REC soccer as that is the bread and butter money maker for town programs and where in theory you build your foundation.

RI Strikers are a premier club - voted in last year I think; whether the name or familiarity is still tied to Smithield is a different issue, but that club can draw at all age levels from more than 4 towns.

And yeah, Bruno U13G must be in for a long season in NEP, but those parents and the RAMS FC U13G (did not even enter state cup and playing in MAPLE at 3 levels below that Ocean State team, should ask themselves what that extra $1200 or so is getting them. Maybe if DP is the RAMS coach and he is the SK HS girls coach you could see the point of positioning your kid for the future if your daughter is a future SK HS student.

U12, especially 8 v 8, can be influenced by a couple of good players and town teams (interesting on the girls side Lincoln/Cumberland opted to go 11 v 11 which is smart if you have a good MS program and bound by 4 community rule, not so smart from a development standpoint, but that's another issue) like South County with solid rec programs and now Academy type programs tend to have those competitive u12 programs -- the problem has always been hanging on to them and expanding to u13/u14 (11 v 11) -- you might get a team or two (SC U14 last year for example - now SC U15 - and even SC older girls last few years until it fell apart between RAMS and some parent issues)

I'll be curious how that SC team does against Bruno U15 this week and their U14 team as well.

They have players from 3 towns actually.

So even though they are considered a premier club they are not using the full power of pulling from all over the place like the other club teams. Sounds like they know what they are doing from a development stand points.

Goal 6 didn't look like too much fun for keeper and defense.
