Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThe whole premier thing is ridiculous. Smithfield, NK, and Prout have probably the most premier players on their rosters, and they were all mediocre. EWG and BV probably have the least number of premier players, and they both did quite well making semi finals. Lincoln had many premier players over the years when they could not win the big one in D2. I predict they are 6-8 but would have been 14-0 in D2.
There is only 1 state championship.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;1201556]Who wants to go 14-0 in the B league when you can compete for the real state championship?

Not talking Lincoln but in general. Most girls soccer is finished at end of high school. As a senior to go undefeated and possibly win state championship yes in d2 these players will feel far more satisfaction and tremendous memories and pride than going 500 or less and 1 playoff game and out in d1. Parents get over your egos ask a player which they would prefer they will agree.

The girls who are real soccer players will always prefer playing against the best possible competition over blowing out the Ponanganset's of the world 10-0 12 times a year.

If Lincoln doesn't make the final 4 in d1 next year, you can put the blame squarely on the coaches. They have more than enough talent next year to get there.

Originally posted by Unregistered View Postyes, and you're right, since the Coventry and Prout temas were the "best" in RI last year just because they were in D1. Lincoln, Burrillville, Pilgrim--these teams were better then the vast majority of D1 RI HS teams last year. Take the top 4 D1 teams an I agree, but take the rest, and they were just not good. D2 in RI is the smae as D1.
The top 1 or 2 teams in D2 can compete in D1 if they have an elite player or two (ie. EWG) or a decent feeder system. Lincoln will do okay in D1, not EWG like (and neither will EWG this year) but Coventry and CW will be near the top of D2, even with limited talent like CW (although maybe a change in coaching will help too).
As Lincoln, BG, Pilgrim better than vast majority..well
Smithfield 2, BG 0 (Smithfield finished what 5th or 6th) so the D2 state champs lose to the D1 opponent and to the D1 cellar dweller from previous year. BG loses the majority of their offense (1 goal scorer back). Except for the D2 final, Lincoln, BG, Pilgrim and Vets were all essentially 1 goal games..again, a Vets team that got blown out in D1 in 80% of its matches.
Guess we'll see this fall..

The 2 keys to winning in HS soccer in RI; Bayside and coaching.
How many Bayside players do you have. How good is your coach. Simple.
