Select is 20 min further away than Scorpions. Definitely another good option for some RI families who already don’t mind driving to Scorpions. Select has its problems though lack of good coaches. Maybe that will change with the lure of being an ECNL coach. Both clubs rent fields. Select has a run down indoor facility for winter training. Select is much more expensive than Scorpions.
It is a good thing for RI and southern MA to have another option for the Ecnl path for girls wanting to play soccer in college. This will though take best players off Surf RI as those players know they need more than DPL. Not many players from Surf etc will even make Select ECNL teams though. One or two maybe. Their GA teams which will be ecnl are strong, not many will break into that. They may make the ECRL team though as the second teams at Select (sky blue) weakened this year when many players frustrated with the impact debacle left the club. One thing to note Select has always been most expensive club in MA.

I know of a few between ECRL and ECNL. I’ve scratched my head and asked why???
They travel because they like the team, high level training and coaches. I don’t judge. We won’t travel, but we did lose a top player to Stars White last year. Player likes team it was very big adjustment at first as the Stars trainings are very intense but she is doing well now.
95% of RI players will not do the drive to Lancaster.
This will not affect White. It will affect Scorpions.

RI surf needs to make some strategic moves to either get into the GA or ECRL leagues. Sitting in the DPL as their highest offering means they will never keep their best players interested in college. Even Bayside offers ECRL teams. If they don’t starting making moves now, there may not be an RI Surf in the next 3-5 years.

Reality - You are either an athlete or you aren’t. You can either play or you can’t. Yes, most top players are drawn to ECNL national teams because they are told that’s the only way. But, if you are good enough, It doesn’t matter what badge you wear on your shirt. There are a bunch of girls at DPL and ECNL2 clubs that Stars, NEFC and Scorps go after year in and year out. These girls will be fine in the college process.
Regardless of what anonymous adults on some chat board think, some girls like the team they’re on and prefer the coaching that they have, because they develop year in and year out. They don’t all chase roster spots offered to them by men who want to line their pockets. Some girls play where they play because they love the game, the training they get and their team. Whether it’s Surf, Strikers, Bayside - they are happy and content and many will play in various ranks in college.
Now having said all that, I would imagine SURF would be looking to make a move, especially given the fact that they’re younger teams 2012, 2013, 2014 are some of the strongest teams in the Region. No sense in letting a bunch of others get fat on the development that has already been done.
Lastly who are these amazing RI girls we are talking about that are going to be blowing it out at P5 schools??? Mary Kate Maguire was the only one in the last ten years, she didn’t play ECNL. NEFC just had a RI girl sign with a P5 school - the verdict is still out on how she will do, but I will be rooting her on. She also didn’t play ECNL.
Both of those girls could have played at almost any club and they would have been fine for college.
You’re either good or you’re not. It’s a tale as old as time.
