Reality - You are either an athlete or you aren’t. You can either play or you can’t. Yes, most top players are drawn to ECNL national teams because they are told that’s the only way. But, if you are good enough, It doesn’t matter what badge you wear on your shirt. There are a bunch of girls at DPL and ECNL2 clubs that Stars, NEFC and Scorps go after year in and year out. These girls will be fine in the college process.

Regardless of what anonymous adults on some chat board think, some girls like the team they’re on and prefer the coaching that they have, because they develop year in and year out. They don’t all chase roster spots offered to them by men who want to line their pockets. Some girls play where they play because they love the game, the training they get and their team. Whether it’s Surf, Strikers, Bayside - they are happy and content and many will play in various ranks in college.

Now having said all that, I would imagine SURF would be looking to make a move, especially given the fact that they’re younger teams 2012, 2013, 2014 are some of the strongest teams in the Region. No sense in letting a bunch of others get fat on the development that has already been done.

Lastly who are these amazing RI girls we are talking about that are going to be blowing it out at P5 schools??? Mary Kate Maguire was the only one in the last ten years, she didn’t play ECNL. NEFC just had a RI girl sign with a P5 school - the verdict is still out on how she will do, but I will be rooting her on. She also didn’t play ECNL.
Both of those girls could have played at almost any club and they would have been fine for college.
You’re either good or you’re not. It’s a tale as old as time.
    Who’s this triggered dad?
RI Surf is irrelevant in the landscape of NE soccer.
Who mentioned P5? Just you dad.
ECNL and GA are the best pathways to College not P5. But not only pathway.
Guess you didn’t get the TS memo, super loser move to pur someone’s full name here.
By the way, soccer league recruiting situation has changed a lot since MKM was in high school. She played for NEFC which was the top club at the time. Since then ECNL took over, GA dropped, Stars became the best club around attracting top talent. Whether or not those players choose D1-D3, Ivy, or enter a trade, military etc is their choice but ECNL players at this moment in time have the most opportunities and it’s the best pathway.

Who’s the Triggered Bayside Coach? Trying to sound like he could be from Scorpions by hyping ECNL, trashing Surf and ignoring Bayside lol. Don’t be angry that your moving leagues AGAIN ****rumor alert****
The TS memo lol??? pretty sure it’s ok to mention a 5 year college starter by name, in a positive manner, who proudly represents RI. It is NOT cool to name kids, everyone knows that Einstein. Poster didn’t name RD in their post. The “TS rule” you speak of is because a clown that use to spend all their time on this site before getting a college gig, liked to trash children who wouldn’t play for him.

Sorry you’re angry that your daughter plays for Bayside, a club where they tell you every year that this is going to be the “best league”, we “guarantee it”. It will take her to the “next level”. But every year they just do whatever LL tells them to do. Do yourself a favor, you’re already going over the bridge….just keep going to Taunton. ECNL, ECNL RL and ECNL 2 all in one place.
College Coaches label kids that hop from team to team, year to year as transfer risks, companies don’t want to hire employees who switch jobs every year. But for some reason - Bayside parents tolerate this….
          19/20 - NPL
          20/21 - DPL
          21/22 - Impact
          22/23 - Elite 64
          23/24 - ECRL “the deuce”
          24/25 - ???????
I’m most excited for the RI Soccer News posts trying to sell this. A mouth piece for Bayside, pretending to be a “news” site, but run by a Bayside Parent hopped up on the Kool Aid.
You’re moving again for at least one year, until the “next big thing” comes - just sit back and take it like you always do lol

            Reality:

60% of college D1 rosters are made up of ECNL players
15% are made up of GA rosters
            ~10% are Internationals
            ~15% are "the rest"

(numbers are estimated, but based on somewhat recent news. And, [opinion here] college will see a rise in Internationals and a drop in ECNL as more players are now going straight to pro and avoiding college altogether.

Hopefully you are getting paid by RI Surf otherwise it is comical how worked up you get about a RI soccer club.

So the options for girls soccer players who are seriously talented and looking to play college soccer are Scorpions ECNL or Select ECNL. If you aren’t in ECRL or ECNL you’re not on a college pathway you are one of 90% of kids who will hope to play high school soccer and that’s it.

This is largely true for d1 schools, but there are plenty of spots at the d2/d3 levels for non ecnl girls.

All depends on how much you want to travel. I know of more than one family who travelled 2+ hours from the Northern part of the Region to get into ECNL or GA teams. Not suggesting anyone should do that, but that's the nature of the beast here. Can't put an "Elite" team in every geographic to lessen travel.

I always say the players that get recruited are the best players who have a situation where they can be recruited. They are not the best players, overall, in the country.

nope. Not many ECNL players even get D1 offers just too much competition. If you think your kid is playing soccer D2 or D3 and not playing for a high level club like Scorpions or Select you are not going to be picked up. Sorry i don’t agree with it but College coaches don’t have time to go to all the league playoffs so now it’s ECNL, Ecrl, and GA showcases. GA is weakening.

Many players in other states like TX, CO, CA etc drive a few hours each night to practice with highly talented players and or train with better coaches. Some families here in RI and even in CT, NH, ME are traveling to play for a MA ECNL club. To each their own.

Only applies to D1 but currently less than 4% of all current juniors who have committed nationwide are from US-based non-ECNL/GA teams. Is your daughter going to be one of the 4%? Great! Stay at Bayside/Surf. And she better be the best player on the team.

"high level club like Scorpions" .... come on. They are "a" club that plays in the "best league". Not all ECNL teams are created equal. Scouts are not lining the sidelines at Scorpions / FSA type club games. If you are a top player (top 10%) good chance you can get offers out of ECNL / GA / even other. If you are middle of the road player, playing for Stars greatly increases your chances of offer while Scorpions might slightly increase your chances. Either way you don't end up with getting much time at a D1 program. But proud parents can say my D places in ECNL.

Don't disagree with this. Curious though, in recent years how many RI players that go to Scorpions are committed to or playing for top 200 program teams?

Per NESJ (for what its worth). 2023 / 2024 / 2025 division 1 RI commits from Scorpions: 2 (both outside the top 200 clubs). Ironically same number as Bayside with Bayside having 1 of the 2 at a top 100 program. But lets keep this narrative going.
