While there may be leagues that the South County teams don't play in, they are welcome in nearly any tournament they apply to.
You are beginning to diminish your own argument. If South County is on par with or a better opeion than most premier teams, then it is counter productive to state that South County is a good option because they play against premier teams. No one doubts that SC is a fine club, but the premier teams offer serious players far more options than SC or any other superliga club.

Not making South County out to be anything more than it is, but am stating that they are able to play a competitive schedule, have access to coaching that is every bit as good as any RI Premier team. The premier advocate will say the town team can't play a competitive schedule and doesn't get the necessary coaching. That is just not true.

The professional coaches are not soley dedicated to that individual team, they assist in training with the support of unpaid coaches - mostly parents & I do not believe they attend competetive games? Of all the town competative teams only a handful are playing in Maple. So although it appears that the SC situation is better than most of the town programs it still is not elevated to the level of a good premier program.

You are hugely misguided if you think playing in Maple provides the basis for the definition of a good premier program.

And yes, the professional coaches are not solely dedicated to that individual team, but I have yet to be a twice a week practice this winter where there was not a professional coach running the practice and assisting the coaches.

Ask twenty people and you'll get 15 different answers about what the level of a good premier program is. In RI, how many programs would that be? And don't give me the MAPLE qualification BS.

Soooo stooooopid - yeah the kid made national camp a couple years ago, commits as a sophomore to Syracuse and isn't getting a scholarship?

Really I wish the wannabees would stay off this thread at least - go back and argue about Portsmouth U12 stealing players from Mass would you - leave at least this thread to the big boys.

Kids don't commit to Syracuse without money as a sophomore.

So you compare Super Liga with Maple? By age 13 most of the upper level players have left the town teams & Super Liga. At what age group are you finding quality competition in Super Liga? As far as the coaches go, good for the players at SC that they are getting quality coaching during training, but if paid coaches never see the players in a competetive setting how much impact can they have?

Any player that commits verbally to a D1 school as a sophomore, or even a junior, is commiting to a scholarship package and the agreement that they will be accepted to the school.

Bayside also has at least three coaches on the ODP staff.

Be careful with how you state things and get the facts before you post.
Maybe not Bayside (and I will say that I saw a lot of Bayside gear at ODP practices last year), sorry if I over-generalized. But I did check my facts and that's the answer I got when I asked around about players I knew that were not participating in ODP despite having the clear talent to do so. (And the answers came from people I know and trust to be knowledgeable, not just random strangers at practices.) I heard the same comments from parents from other states at the regional tourney in NJ, e.g. "our best players are being told not to bother with ODP and to just train with the club."

There are even more Bayside players this year. I know the club and coaches have been promoting ODP. ODP has been such a joke for years and at least from my perspective and my daughters ODP team you have some pretty good teams on the girls side this year. At least a quality product you can put on the field and say that they all know how to play. In the past, there were girls that didn't even know how to play and came from town recreational teams. We would play scrimmages and get blown out by town teams in the past. I think it will give the players a place to show their talents and maybe get recognized.

Hopefully with better Bayside players getting involved, the other premier teams will promote it. You always need one top club to promote it and get in and trust me the rest will join eventually. Bayside should be commended for at least trying to make it better with players and coaches getting involved.

Well congratulations to UMass Lowel for moving to the D1 America East conference. That is a huge step forward for the school and the womens soccer team. The NE-10 is a great conference too but the AE will provide some very tough competition. I know BU was moving to the Patriot League but did not know UML was able to take their spot, but good luck to them!

I don't think many other clubs will promote ODP they are afraid of losing players. When the players/parents see what they are getting and what they could be getting the choice would be clear and many would try to leave. Why do you think tryouts are all the same time and days? Clubs are not about making soccer better in RI they are about keeping the money flowing!
