I heard Sam Snow come to RI a few years ago and preach this and that and right next to him were the SRI folks who were doing just the opposite in RI.

Same with regions. Want to deemphasize the 'adult model' of soccer - then don't sanction Regions who allow U12 state cup/regional play, especially 11 v 11 (read the curriculum on u12 play!).

i don't know how successful "Project Goal" is, but it seems like a great program -- so where are the project goals beyond the inner city? I know in our area, the soccer is left to the local town association, but there is no "free play', no pick-up.. there is nothing that keeps kids interested in soccer outside of being on a set rostered team and so when the inevitable "A" and "B" selections start happening (now at u10!), the B kids start to look around at lacrosse or other sports.
The clubs playing in NEP next year will be registered with US Club Soccer and will not need to go through SRI for anything. Of course, with Bayside, Bwp-NEFC, Bruno and Ri Strikers all playing in NEP looks like State Cup will be a joke.

Why? Can't they play in ri state cup while playing in NEP? The press release for the new NEFC RI even said that the teams would be participating in the RI state tournaments.

NEP will not be USYSA league next year, just a US Club Soccer league. So won't be qualifying league for State Cup

If these teams are interested in State Cup, maybe OD will recognize a business opportunity and create a new "Super Anchor" division that is truly open. This will provide an avenue for teams to play in a qualifying leage for State Cup.

There are ways around it though.

NEFC is playing NPL this year and still in MA state cup through R1PL

"The NEP has been granted approval from Mass Youth Soccer to act as a State Cup qualifying league for Massachusetts. It has received similar approval from Soccer Rhode Island, Soccer Maine and New Hampshire Soccer Association."

Nothing change..... NEP has a NPL division so teams can qualify for State Cup. http://events.gotsport.com/events/De...?EventID=36609

Right, but if NEP is now no longer USYS next year that means NO NEP divisions will qualify for State Cup.

So now that leaves Region1, MAPLE and Superliga as qualifying leagues left for State Cup. Either these leagues will have to get creative or State Cup is gonna suck in MA and RI.

I'm pretty sure you can affiliate with both associations. Not common here but normal practice in other parts of Region I.

Do we know if NEP has plans to affiliate with both, because based on the news I've read, they are not just joining US Club Soccer, but they are pulling out of USYSA. Like I said, that would mean trouble for the State Cup tournaments.

You are correct, they are not going to get sanctioned by USYSA. My guess is SRI will find some way to get them in State Cup. "Show me the MONEY$$"

Like Soccer RI has ever kept a tight reign over its rules and regulations. Why has Bayside United competed in the RI State Cup the last 2 years even though they are a registered Massachusetts club?

Something about a coup/heist some years ago.

From the website about one of their teams
                                Bayside United
Bayside United Premier Soccer Club, established in 1997, is a competitive youth soccer club serving Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. Bayside United is a member of Massachusetts Youth Soccer which is recognized by the United States Soccer Federation.
Bayside United runs under the direction of its originator, Coach Stacey DeCastro, providing an advanced program of coaching and competition to help student-athletes reach the highest level of soccer and academia. Bayside United currently has teams that compete in the Sub-Region Premier League, MAPLE League and the Massachusetts Soccer Conference League.

                                From the main BU page
