Joke or not, EWG continues to get a lot of press. Not only did the coach get a prestigious national award, but channel 10, 12 and the projo continue to follow the team and other D2 teams more than any D1 team, or so it seems to me. If I have simply just not seen the coverage of D1 teams in the paper and on tv, let me know, but I am pretty sure I have been following soccer news pretty thoroughly. Not that I agree that this should be the case, but it is what it is.

Coach wins awards for playing with a D1 team in D2 for years, school gets banners and press, parents think everything is great. Maybe they'll get 200 goals this year! Go Exeter/West Greenwich!

EWG does not have a D1 team. It's a D2 team. They'll be facing plently of other solid D2 teams during the rest of the season. You're confusing parents and players at EWG with the parents and players from places like Lasalle or Smithfield where almost all of the players are on premier club teams. EWG HS team is the EWG superliga team with about 3 players from South County superliga. They belong in D2 and technically, by school size, should probably be D3.

She lives in neither, funny last year never heard anyone say she lives in LaSalle. Next year it may be who knows Barrington.

Yeah, it's called defense. You don't see a lot of D2 or D3 but it does exist and it's a helpful part of the game.

Although, I must admit I do miss the days of U8 rec when my daughter scored 15 goals a game against her opponents who were spinning around in a circles staring at the sky with their cleats on the wrong feet wondering if they'd get a lemonade after the game.

Those were golden moments in her soccer career - I really do wish she played for EWG.

why does everyone always end up trashing EWG? I'm simply stating that the offensive shortcomings so far in D1 are more prominenet than any defensive brilliance. I nearly fell asleep last night watching eg and Portsmouth play kickball.

shortcomings or not, at least there is parity. This is what makes for exciting play.

should have seen Lasalle and barrington duke it out. I think it would have been more exciting if it were a 10-0 blowout like it would have been last year. Oh the glory days are gone.

I would say their is plenty of offensive talent that remains in D1 when defenses are sub-par. Problem is that there are only a couple teams with sub-par defenses in D1.

In D2 and D3, most defenses are sub-par and if you have an offensively gifted team you will win 9 - 10 times.

In D1 you must have both - look at NK, they have no problem putting up 8 goals but when
they play a team with even moderate defense and decent offense (SK) they lose because their defense is soft and their offense doesn't get the same possession time.
