Agreed. Unfortunately CW fell hard today to a D2 team--not CE

Expect Cranston West to make the playoffs. Should do fairly well would not put much stock in a mere scrimmage which was used to decide who would go to JV and who would play varsity.

True, but wasn't EWG doing the same thing!

Did Cranston West play EWG, or did EWG play some other team? It seems like at this point, most teams would probably have picked their JV and Varsity squads. I think by the time injury fund games roll around, you won't have any more questions about who your Varsity players are. Maybe at this point though teams are still sorting it out. If so, I would not put any stock in any scrimmage results.

CW scrimmaged EWG, I know CW is still sorting things out, EWG I don't know, but EWG did look more polished then our CW.

              6. Prout
              7. Toll Gate (not a typo)

              11. Warwick Vets
              12. Cranston West
              13. Coventry
              14. Bayview
              15. Cumberland

Qualifier: If Jim K gets a new pair of coaching crocs for the season, SK goes to a 3rd place finish!
Smithfield and South Kingstown ahead of LaSalle? Ridiculous! And North Kingstown in first place? Even more ridiculous!

Cranston West is the better team because they are in division 1. If EWG thought they were a good team they woul dbe in division 1, but because they are in division 2, they are not good. If an team does not challenge themself by joining division 1, they deserve to be in division 2. They are not good. It does not matter what the score was. the division q team is better.

You should only make a post when you know what your talking about. I will use EWG only because you mention them. If you see the formula RIIL used for this realinment you would know that EWG is ranked 22 in the state this is due to their school size which drags them down in the ranking. They would like to go to D1 but if there is not a school that would like to come down there is no place for them to go. They need to wait for a D1 school to come down and no other school above them that would go up. With the new ranking Bay View was in D2 MSC in D1, MSC asked to move down because they were one of bottom 3 schools in D1 Bay View said they would move up, Bay View ahead of EWG in rankings so they go EWG sits and waits. So don't say this school or that school won't do this or that until you know your facts, or ask someone who may know.

Looks like that's this year's explanation why EWG isn't in D1. I wonder what next year's will be once they win D2 for the third time? I don't buy it.

Unless you are accusing someone of being a day trader, or trading baseball cards or bottle caps, you've made yourself look like a moron. Well done.

RIIL has asked the division champions and finalists to each play a few non-league games.

OK - freshman mom, clearly you have no insight into any teams beyond LaSalle. Let me help you from looking stupid on the sidelines as those older Lasalle parents whine for the days of the twins!

                              1. North Kingstown - 2-3 strong forwards who can all score including a former ODP R1 pool player and a national pool player (yes RI had a national pool player before MM got called in this year). Also, feature a couple strong and athletic mid-fielders and a decent goalie. Have the right talent to be first - coaching (or drama associated with it) is always the problem.

                              2. Smithfield - Two very strong and smart sisters with ECNL experience - injury prone but if they are playing, one is tough and commands the game - the other is fast and a very smart playmaker. Also have forward with good finishing ability - lead last year's Region 1 tournament leader as well as a decent sophomore who has played with Stars and ODP.

                              3. East Greenwich - Strong team already in place with returning seniors upfront as well as a good crop of sophomores likely to see a lot more time this year than last as they look to replace all-state mid-fielder. Key injury on defense but freshman starter from last year is fast and tough on defense - tough to beat her. Also have best coaching in league.

                              4. South Kingston - JK is gone so who knows how the team and new coach will be but they have most underrated goal scorer in the league upfront - likely to score 35 goals this year. Defense is solid - not pretty, but effective.

                              5. LaSalle - Will have to replace 50+ goals this year and twice as many assists. Have a great track star sophomore upfront - she'll get to a lot of balls but usually offside, no touch and no finishing ability especially in HS when she's rugby tackled in the box every game. Other goal scorer will try to do it all herself and continue to be ineffective. Lasalle's biggest obstacle to a decent finish in 2012 is the middle of the field - loss of key sophomore for the season due to injury is devastating. Two incoming freshman mids could help, including a Region 1 pool player, but hard to expect any impact especially when she's coming off a whole year off with an ACL. Neither will have the physical presence of sophomore injured mid. Coaching will also be under a microscope - much easier to win when you have the Nation's best high school player on your team.

6.Prout - Defensively focused team that's big and physical with pretty good goaltending.Wildcard is the shape senior striker comes back in after second serious knee injury of career suffered during playoffs last year- clearly most talented and naturally-skilled player in the league if she wants, and is able to play this year. Only lost two seniors from last year's playoff team - new division alignment should help with less games against EG, NK, & SK.

Then there's the rest - a lot of parity and nothing too exciting to separate each. The above are the cream of the crop and will be the ones truly contending for a championship in October/November.

Good assessment but I think it will be EG-SK for the finals. NK is too undisciplined overall to advance to the finals. Coaching is unstable and there are too many variables at key positions. Simthfield also was questionable defensively last year and without the one key player that put pressure on opposing teams, expect a tough time for this team. Prout--maybe they'll get lucky if one player can stay healthy, but EG and SK have the most depth, discipline, potentially solid coaching for both teams (EG already has it) and the right players in the right spots to go all the way to the finals.
