The point remains the same - at U16 next year, there are 3 players from RI playing on ECNL teams in MA - none are playing in CT. The three players are all good and could play for RI's top team at the age bracket, Bayside.

Other than these three, there are no other "top talent" RI-based players at U16 playing outside the state.

Sadly, if these three players stayed in state and played at Bayside - you possibly have a Regional finalist from RI this year in Hershey.

Hard to say what will get them more exposure - regional 1 finals or ECNL first-round play.

The answer to that is probably that if the players played at bayside, the exposure they would get at regionals (if they made it, which they probably would) would be much less overall than the exposure they would get throughout the year at various ECNl events, which all feature many coaches and your chances of being seen is much greater with ECNL.

The flip side of the ECNL issue is that most kids end up going to college relatively close to home. And ECNL teams play all over the place. While I still feel that the ECNL opportunity is a good one as far a playing soccer now and in the future at a high level. The players ability to be seen by the coaches that they most want to be seen by can be accomplished for a lot less time and money.

It's also an issue of who do you want coaches to see you playing AGAINST. If in the ECNL, you will regularly play teams that are for the most part (but not in absolutely every case) stronger than region 1 teams. And the coaches from the northeast schools will be at every ECNL event--there are at least 15 games played in MA, NJ, and CT --but that is not to say that those coaches won't also be at the region 1 tournament. Will they be at the NEP and Maple games? Maybe.

Interesting thoughts, but this needs to be brought to a Premier Thread or non-high school thread maybe even a new thread "Where should my daughter play to best be seen by college coaches". This thread is 2012 RI Girls High School Thread we got way off topic awhile ago.

This assumes that these three are incrementally and substantially better than the girls who are already as BS and on that team, in the same positions Since you can only play 11 players at a time, I am not sure that it follows that that would have made the difference between where that team finished and being a finalist

Schedules have not be released to the public yet. Coaches do have them.

All three would have played on Bayside and received significant time. TV would easily cut 2 of his existing players to accommodate 2 of the players, not sure if he would want the head case.

Why does LaSalle play 2 non league games? Isn't this just risking an injury?

The scheduled in the past has been 18 games, this year there are a total of 14 league games. (RIIL decided to have fewer games) Most coaches want to add a couple of non league games for a higher game count.

I think RIIL intends to allow for more playoff games. So you do 14 games and if you make post season, you might play 5 or 6 more games.

The change to 14 game schedule could have a huge impact on playoffs for teams in south division since they are probably most competitive from top to bottom. Other teams could count on some "easy" divisional wins to get them in playoff contention in past years - this year could be remarkably different situation.

Take a team like Coventry last year who went (7-9-2) overall but (1-5-2) in their division. You take away three divisional losses and a tie based on their results against other division opponents and they end the season with a (7-6-1) winning record in a 14-game schedule.

On the other hand, you take Cranston West who went (8-7-3) overall but (5-1-2) in their division. YEliminate 3 extra wins versus TG, Vets, & Barrington and even eliminate the loss to Portsmouth and they end up at (5-6-3) in a 14-game schedule.

Have the playoff qualification rules changed with the new schedule?
