With all seriousness, it is people like that keep defending the status quo that is why RI soccer is going down the tube. CD if you don't know has done nothing to improve youth soccer in RI. Everywhere she goes she has lay waste to the programs. That is what we are calling SRI out on this insider job they just did. We know more about youth soccer than you think. Ask yourself or ask SRI what happen to last year's 98 girls team. Ask them what happen. That was the best group of girls RI ODP has put together in a long time. Ask why many of those girls refused to join this year's ODP. SRI/RI ODP is the very reason we have subpar teams year in and year out. Look at the boys side. If you combine the 98,97 and 96, you still don't have enough players to form a team. Sad....

Ok stop and let the kids play. Play what???? RI ODP is horrendous. The best players in RI do not want to play for RI ODP. It is morons like you that keep this corrupt system alive. Don't worry our kids are smarter than you think. They know.

You might get a good group every once in a while, but not year in year out at every age group. Quality is better in MA.....BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORE PLAYERS TO START WITH. Go to MA and then come back to this blog in a few years and tell me if your kid is making a Div I or Div II team or is still in the ODP program. In the meantime the kids in RI, including the ones that run away to MA will still be way behind the talent elsewhere. Wake up. Maybe there is one or two top shelf players but that's about it. 99.99% will maybe have kids that play someday that they can coach to be even better than they were....that's what soccer in this country needs over a LONG period of time to really improve the quality.

As has been documented on this forum many, many times, an individual needs to first get elected to a leadership position on the local level. That individual is then invited to particpate in SRI quarterly meetings. It is at these quarterly meetings that nominations are taken for SRI board positions, of which local representatives are eligible. You put in for a nomination, a ballot is taken and if you get enough votes, you're in. That's how you get elected to the SRI Board.

The process is very similar to most authoritative youth sports organizations, including Little League Baseball.

But none of this happens to people who sit in front of a computer and just complain. If you are really sincere about making changes and making a difference, then run for your town association presidency. If you don't know your town's election process works - ASK.

If your views are held by the majority of your town association members that actually care enough to show up at your town association's annual meeting, then you will have no problem getting elected.

The fact of the matter is...most people who complain aren't willig to take the time nor effort to run. It's just easier to complain. The reality is that virtually every youth sports organization is begging for more adult involvement.

By the way, OD is no longer on the SRI Board. No more conflict of interest with his running SL.

ODP should not be an elected position; and one problem perhaps is the term "development program". ODP does not do enough training or developmental activities (and we can argue about depending on who you had as an ODP coach on the quality of the little training they do -- our coach schedule scrimmages/friendlies for half the sessions) to really be a developmental program. It's more an identification program.

If it focused more on being an identification program, it would not spend $100K plus on coaches, but use some of that money to have people go out and scout and then work on a more regional basis with the clubs/teams the identified players are on. Now, it's show up at a tryout, who can pay $$, and can they field a team to justify paying the coach.

If they focused more on identifying where the top players are, working across age groups with the pockets where those players are, and then not worrying about how the "team" does because as mentioned, it's about letting individuals shine, not how the team does -- you might have a more successful program and not get the parents who are chasing the "title" for their kids..
