FYI...while your team was playing kick and run vs scorps third team, bayside was manhandling the scorps second team..don't be too sure of yourself!

That is scorps 5th tier team.

Top U12 team plays U13 NEP Championship division
      2nd team plays NEP U12
3rd team plays Maple U12 green
4 team plays Maple U12 orange
      5th team plays Maple 8v8

Just looked on Scorps teams Got soccer site and Bayside U12 beat that team 10-0 at Bandits Cup in the fall. That 5th ranked team couldn't beat a low ranked town program!!!

NEFC team your town team beat is their 6th or 7th ranked team in the NEFC organization.

Funny!!! Maple 8v8 is not even talked about. That is maples answer to superligas rhody division. Those are teams that played 4th and 5th division maple and clubs with new teams that don't have enough to play 8v8.

Also ultimately leads to a counter attack around here as very few if any coaches teach their kids how to keep shape and cover on defense. At younger age groups only worth the risk if your entire back line is sweeper like fast.

An overlapping run is any run around the backside of another player. That's it, it's not that hard to understand.

Do outside backs or defenders make these runs? In today's game, yes, all the time.

The outside back either overlaps the outside midfielder, or a wing forward most of the time.

Anyone who tells you otherwise really has no idea what they are talking about. Overlapping has to do with the act of running around the back of another player to get into the space that's there. It has nothing to do with the position that player plays.
Wrong!! That is a run up the flank. An overlap is when you run from one side around another player and to the other side. Look at the diagram that another guy put on this site several posts before this one. It shows it perfectly. Defenders do not make overlapping runs. If you are a coach and you got it through SRI, you must have just passed.

Teams don't play with sweepers any more or at least the professionals don't and most top clubs. Town soccer still plays sweeper, stopper.

Sorry, I guess I was wrong! I should have done my homework before saying we were kicking butt in Maple! I really thought that was a top scorps team. I also did confirm that Bayside beat that team 10-0.

Portsmouth parent here and sorry for the person who is posting on here. Our parents are all class acts and I am pretty sure I know who is posting and saying all this stuff about Portsmouth team going to win. We would never do this but I know who may be posting on our behalf and I will expose you if you continue.

This is embarrassing and should not reflect our team. It's just a game and we don't profess to be the best. Stop posting and making us look bad!!!

Somebody should tell Patrice Evra and Felipe that they aren't allowed to overlap. In this article it says explicitly that they are doing so:

Remove the parentheses to access the article.

The top fullbacks in the world make overlapping runs regularly. That is what they are called by everyone and that is what they do.

Just google "overlapping" and any of those players, or any other world class full backs and you come up with thousands of articles.

You're in over your head, boy.

You must coach in rhody boy!!! Calm down coach. I am not a coach but I just thought I would get into the debate.

The real definition and the proper overlapping run:

Definition: When the player with the ball passes to his teammate and then runs around or beyond that player, either to receive the ball back or create a diversion.

As the game has evolved they also call a right back running up the flank as making an overlapping run but the real overlapping run is the one described above.

Also: When a player who does not have the ball runs ahead of his teammate who is in possession. The player with the ball will commonly look to cut in, while his teammate runs down the line to create a diversion.

                                You aren't a coach? What a shock!

You are in over your head, stay out of the conversation.

What you described has no positional element and happens between outside backs and midfielders, wing forwards all the time.

                                Stop posting.
