I totally agree that the NE Wave deserves credit for this win. With last night's victory the wave are now 1-18-3 in their last 22 games. GO WAVE! Your President could care less about you but the bright people at TS love you.

Should sell that team to Tidal Wave and they can then be called Tidal Wave Wave or Tidal Wave Redux.

I would first like to say that I do not live in New England and have no connection to any club. I was forwarded this link to this site by someone I know and they said I should read what parents are posting on these sites. I am appalled, dismayed and disappointed at some of the comments that are made here.

I am a former coaching instructor at a pretty high level and can tell you that I know many different educational soccer curriculums around the world and I can say that not one person on this site really knows what they are talking about. I just hope that the children that play the game are not reading this.

I can't believe that parents even come on this site to post and I saw where some actually have their names posted. I wasn't going to post myself but feel that I have too because I am so upset by reading these comments. We always try to tell coaches that #1 is to develop players but you have parents coming on here saying its about wins and losses and putting the ball in the back of the net. If a coach that ever attended a license class promoted this, I can tell you that they would be sent home immediately. I did read where someone said, let's try to teach and play the right way and that is really what needs to be taught.

People promoting a direct style of play. Just for the record, that's what we try not to teach our coaches. We have tried to employ a more european style of play of passing and proper movement of the ball and playing out of the back. This site is talking about how kick and chase is ok and how a team can be successful with this approach. Wrong!!! Wins and losses are not to be a concern at this age but proper teaching and proper style of play is much more important. Yes, a direct style is successful at times
but not really what we want to teach or we will never be a force on the international stage.

I read some of the other links and I really can't believe this. I really thought it was a joke when this person sent me this link to review. It's probably the most negative and deplorable site I have ever read. Please for the sake of the kids, please stop this nonsense. You are ruining the game for your children. It's supposed to be about fun and proper development and promoting this great game!! Instead people are joking and making it a game of winning at all costs and robbing your kids of a great experience. 99% will never be a top college or professional player.

Lastly, I did read one where the person was providing a game recap and a lot of the soccer terminology was completely wrong and to say they like to play a kick and run style is not an appropriate style of play to teach our youth. Outside backs don't make overlapping runs, they make runs up the flanks. I also read somewhere where someone was describing the offside rule incorrectly. It's when the ball is passed/played when the player is determined to be in an offside position. If you are going to post, please have the correct information. People then watch games and then dispute calls because they read something on this site from someone who truly doesn't know the game or the rules.

State Cup is a great event, don't cheapen the tournament by coming on this site and bashing and being negative about teams and coaches. We just hope they are trying to teach the kids the proper way to play this wonderful game and don't profess to be an expert and not know what you are talking about. Have fun and good luck to all the teams and please enjoy the experience!!

Don't you just love Soccer Elitists like this guy? Telling us how we should think, speak and talk about the game? Like our world revolves around them. Pompous.

It's not about wins and losses but the team that wins gets to go play in the tournament! How you play the game is very important IMO, but only a fool actually believes that winning isn't part of the program. The boring "know it all" also was quite wrong about the overlapping run comment - overlapping runs are just like they sound - they can happen anywhere in the field. Maybe this is why US soccer is suffering!!!

That guy was absolutely right. Defenders do not make overlapping runs. Do you know what an overlap is? It's when for example a left midfielder overlaps and makes a run behind and around the center mid or vice versa!! When a right back makes a run up the right wing, that isn't an overlap run. If you ever see a defender making an overlap run around another defender, they are not being thought the right way. It's called bad defensive shape

You just made yourself seem more incompetent. Look up an overlap run and see who makes those runs. What a fool you are and you know nothing about the game.

Clearly you have a very simplistic knowledge of the game:

                    Instructions
The ball will start with the right fullback player (1) who passes to the ball to the right midfielder player (2). The right fullback (1) makes a overlapping run around the outside midfielder player. The right outside midfielder player (2) passes to the checking forward player (4). The forward player (4) drops the ball off to the center midfield player (3) who plays a ball towards the right corner flag onto the run of the right defensive player (1). The right defensive player should prep the ball and cross the ball into the two forwards (4) & (5) who have advanced towards the face of the goal.

There a re many situations where any player on the team can be in a situation where an overlapping run will be effective.

Here's another one. Maybe you should actually watch some soccer! I'm beginning to think that you are one of those guys that only watches their kids play. Or maybe worse, Only watched their kids play and is a coach!!!!!

The great Brazilian soccer player, Roberto Carlos, “creates” by making great “overlapping soccer runs” down the side line from his fullback position to send beautiful “crossing passes” to his forwards. (See

                        Here's a little graphic for you: http://www.worldclasscoaching.com/blog/?p=1239

It's just not that complicated. It's like saying someone checked back to the ball. Sure a forward will be doing it more than any other player but it happens all over the field. Having your backs use overlapping runs is an effective way of keeping possession of the ball and move the others entire team in the direction of the ball making for better opportunities for attacking through the midfield.

Look up an overlapping run. That is not an overlapping run. An overlapping run is when a center midfielder runs around the right midfielder. Ask or look it up. You guys are idiots. The answer is in the word. Overlap!!! Over and around another player. A right back running by a right midfielder is not making an overlapping run.

I hope you guts are not coaches. This is what we are talking about. People talking out of their butts without the proper knowledge. Then you wonder why our kids don't know the game.

Just saw your diagram and You should read it again. Look who has the ball center midfielder and who is he overlapping, umm the right midfielder. What are the defenders doing? Let's see keeping their shape and shifting over. What an idiot. The players with the ball are the attackers not the defenders playing up top. You just don't get it. Read it again. What an idiot, you can't even read a simple diagram.

This is hilarious. Thanks for the diagram it actually proves my point. It's the defenders working on how to defend overlapping runs, not the defenders making overlapping runs. You miss read the description. That is hilarious.

ok--maybe I was confused on overlapping runs. Even an expert sometimes gets it wrong.

I appreciate you admitting it. A defensive player should never make an overlapping run. They make runs up the flanks.
