2011-2012 Rhode Island Girls Premier Team Rankings

I would have South County 1st, Bayside 2nd, and Blackwatch 3rd. Blackwatch loss their best player(play maker) to NEFC so I would have to discount them as the top team in U14. However, South County deserve to be #1 for now.

Bristol U15 is still the same team from last year. Play hard and dirty and can give teams a scare if they can't control the game.

South County U16 will most likely be the 3rd or 4th place team this year. Tidal Wave with the additions of the Rays will be a strong team but Bayside is still the team to beat.

Smithfield U12 a good Superliga team but not at the caliber of Lusitana and Bayside.

No, Smithfield U12 does play Maple. They have not been top notch consistently in their divisions, but they are OK.

Lusitana parent here ... U14 Lusitana crushed Tidal wave 4-0 just two months ago and it wasn't that close. Not sure how you would have Tidal Wave ranked higher. No predictions but Lusitana went 8-0 in MASC (had to play there in the Fall, moving to Maple in Spring) and took runner up in the Bandit's Cup this past August going 4-1 in the tourney. Not saying they are better than Bayside (who looks good) but stop with Tidal Wave.

Didn't Tidal Wave U14 lose their Maple spot? Are they moving back into Maple this spring?

No, Smithfield U12 does play Maple. They have not been top notch consistently in their divisions, but they are OK.

The OPs original list is pretty accurate and fair. I guess the problem I have is that listing multiple teams in an age bracket insinuates that there is some proximity in talent.

Honestly, you look at some these girls age groups and there are such gaps between the #1 and the rest of the teams its misleading to even list them. I didn't even know Bwatch had a Girls U15 team nevermind they are #2 in the state.

The OP has done are excellent job in ranking the teams. The ranking only applies to premier clubs. I do agreed in couple of age brackets some of the stronger town teams should be included in this ranking but left out intentionally.

Lets use the U15 girls as an example. Bristol is the second ranked team by gotsoccer ahead of Bruno and Blackwatch. I discounted East Greenwich because many of their top players plays on the Bayside team already. But Blackwatch does have a U15 girls team and they have added some players to the team so they should be stronger than Bruno and Bristol. Again, OP ranking is strickly premier clubs so he might be correct to assumed Blackwatch will be better than Bruno.

Yes, but you are comparing apples to oranges here. They are two totally different types of clubs. Smithfield U12 is a town "club" playing in MAPLE with average results. They charge minimal fees and do not have paid coaches. Bayside is a premier club, plays in NEP, has won State Titles and has paid coaching staff, goalkeeper training etc and costs top dollar...If Bayside did not "spank" Smithfield U12 in a friendly, that would be a problem! Don't you think?

I don't think Smithfield U12 or any smaller clubs are trying to be, or are trying to compete with Bayside. They are a totally different type of organization. Clubs that are structurally similar to Bayside on the girls side (price wise and size wise) are Bruno and Blackwatch. At least those would be the closest comparision. I don't think the smaller organizations are looking to be Bayside, if so, they would likely raise prices and hire staff.

Very weak group. Since I have seen all 5 of these teams play last fall, here's how I would rank them. Granted, I'm basing it against the opponents I saw them against which weren't strong. Can't comment on South County as I have never seen them play.

1. Blackwatch-No trained goalkeeper but decent field players
2. Lusitana-Distant 2nd at this point. Won't be in MAPLE in the spring. 8-0 MASC? Really?
3. Bayside-Has potential to move up or move out. Depends on the parents
4. Bruno-Only Tidal Wave keeps them from the bottom. A train wreck
5. Tidal Wave-Too many younger kids playing up

Bayside has added 11 new players 7 from the Rays and one from Bayside U15. South County also tied bayside last year 1-1 in state cup. No disrespect but I have been told Luistana was built with 5 or 6 girls who got cut from Bayside tryouts 8-0 in MASC is nothing to call home about. Not saying Bayside will win it all and I agree some of our parents need to relax but to compare this years team and last years team is crazy! Good luck to all teams in State Cup!

They didn't really lose any players who saw significant minutes - even if Bristol is considered #2 - it will be by about 7 goals outside vs Bayside in this age category. State cup without Bayside would be fun to watch.

I stand corrected on Bruno. I thought it was Bruno I saw at the Bandit's Cup but it turns out it was Liverpool, so the comment on Bruno was unfair to them.

They didn't really lose any players who saw significant minutes - even if Bristol is considered #2 - it will be by about 7 goals outside vs Bayside in this age category. State cup without Bayside would be fun to watch.

I don't think anyone on T-S in RI (regardless of where their children play) disagrees that Bayside has dominated RI State Cup. However, what have they done beyond that? If you look at the MA boards, RI (aka Bayside) was called a "perennial doormat state" at all age levels in Regional play. (along with VT). If you look at the Clubs in MA/CT, both on Boys and Girls side players are getting good scholarship money at decent schools. Bayside's most recent Alumni list includes CCRI??? Really? So while this list is certainly entertaining, it does not exactly boast high level soccer even at the # 1 spot, Bayside has not exactly been a dominating force in Regional Play. But hey, brag where you can, right?
