I haven't seen many Town teams preach player development they seem to stress winning is all that matters. I am however, getting sick of the parents who think there kid is the best yet they never perform on the field so I was kind of hoping this would be a bit less having better coaches. I have thought about Bayside, Tidal wave and Blackwatch as they seem to be the closest ones. According to each team's website they all appear to have decent coaches. Any thoughts on these teams

A matter of time until this poster starts responding to his own query and starts trashing the 3 above mentioned. Let the games begin!

All 3 of RI biggest clubs. And at all three you will find the parents hate each other with a passion. Which means for those of us who troll for laughs. This is about to get REALLY FUN! This, my friends, is when all the crazies come out.

No seriously...my daughter would be a U16 this coming season. Played high school soccer and now want to try premier. I was thinking about 4 teams to try out for. Bruno, BW, TW or Bayside. Any help would be appreciated.

Tidal Wave is in 3rd division Maple, were competitive in RI State Cup, place fairly well in tournaments, and have multi sport athletes (most three seasons). In reality with more lax training schedules these clubs should not be able to even hang with the big dogs, but they always do.
They stay with the smaller clubs because they like the team, the coaches and the ability to play other sports because, although they love soccer, it isn't their entire life. Lusitana has some excellent players that could go to " big MASS clubs" if they wanted but they like where they are and enjoying playing at a pretty decent DIV 2 level.

It's all about finding the right fit.

OK. here's what you do. Contact all 4 clubs. Schedule a practice session with each club. this should be free. I can pretty much guarantee you and your daughter will know right away which team is the best fit. Don't go to any club just because of win loss records or a coaches resume'. If it doesn't feel right or your daughter feels overwhelmed, cross that one off the list. And always remember that they want your money, not your daughter. Don't listen to the college scholarship song and dance. One kid from each team might get a significant scholarship, all the rest of the families are paying for that kids chance to get some cash for college.

and if you don't fit in with the cool dads on the sideline, call Bayside.

At that age it's really not about a tryout in the strict sense. Better to send emails to the club and request if your daughter can attend a practice or 2. Trust me, you and her will know if she belongs there by the time the night is over and then go from there. Some girls teams will welcome her and some will shut her out and wish she wasn't even there. Even if she is good enough for that club you really would be better off elsewhere.

Better yet. Go to gotsoccer and see if the teams have roster opening. If a team has 18 players already on the roster your daughter's chance of getting on the team is next to zero. Also talk to her teammate on the HS team and find out where they play premier. In the long run this might help them prepare for next year's HS soccer season.

Tough when your kid can only make desperate TW teams.

From a mothers standpoint. And I know I am going to get bashed on this board of Dads, I loved the club experience. It allowed my daughter to meet, bond and form friendships with kids from other towns. She also learned to adjust her game to play with kids of other sizes and styles of play. It is important that she belongs there, especially at her age. You want good soccer, you also want her to have a good personal experience. Like an above poster said, not all kids get scholarships so make sure they enjoy the time they are there. That in itself is an accomplisment.

We too are looking for some options for my daughter. She is also U16 first year and would like to play and contribute at the HS level-but has no interest in playing in college-even if she had the ability.

The problem with the town we are in isn't the coaching at her level-it is the ability of the players still in the town system. They are great kids and good players but it's not at the level she needs to continue to improve. This also dictates the competition she will play against. She had a very successful first year at HS and it would be nice for her to build on that.

She is one of the multi-sport athletes that never fully committed to soccer until now.

She is staying with her town team for the coming season-she had made that commitment
and will keep it. She is interested though in supplementing what they offer with other things-clinics, pick up leagues, perhaps a personal trainer who has been recommended who teaches speed, agility and soccer skills.

The exposure she had this year to the best players in our town was an eye-opening experience for her-she realizes how much work she needs to do if she wants to become a contributing member of her school team.

So for now that is her situation. In the spring when there are tryouts for Premier she will go to what is recommended for her but until then any suggestions are welcome.

Take a look at the u16 South County team. It's pretty much run like a premier team without the huge cost or total commitment. The team easily competes with all the premier teams in the state and has done well in a number of tournaments.

Thanks for the plug but South County is NO Premier. If you want to be on a well coached select team then SC is an option. You should take some of the advises posted here and go tryout with all the premier clubs and also give SC a look and compare their style of play. Obvious the talent level will be different from club to club but you need to look beyond the W/L record. Assess your duaghter strenghts and weaknesses and see which club's training can best help her get to her goals.

Also if you want her to get the type of training as you mentioned then you need to talk to the premier club NOW. She would need to give up the Spring commitment to the town team. Premier tryout are held during the summer and because she is a SH player training does not start until the winter season 2012 if you decided to wait until summer 2012. If you don't make the transition now she will have to wait until winter of 2013 in order to play on a premier team. By that time she would be entering her junior HS year so not sure that is a good investment on your part and hers.
