    seaside classic

Our team played in the seaside classic this weekend. the bad weather held off and for the most part the fields were in good shape. The referees were to be kind lacking experience. Field marshalls at every game were in our experience useless. Anyone have a similar experience?

The officials are a problem at all levels not just town run tournaments such as seaside. Who wants to become a referee today? There is hours of training only to be ridiculed by a parent who thinks there kid is playing at the world cup level. Let the kids play and the official officiate and just be quiet and maybe you would see more quality in officials.

Good info. One of the things that many people don't get is that what they see and what the Ref sees will be very different, just from where they see the action. I know that when I see the replays on television It's surprising how many times I am wrong. Add the parent part into the equation then us parents are probably more wrong than the Refs in the first place.

Your job as a parent/spectator when watching your kids play is to cheer your kid and team on and keep your mouth shut when it comes to the Refs. The other thing to keep in mind is that if your team is behind or being outplayed it is not the fault of the Refs.

Not only that, but I am done listening to parents and coaches whine about refs costing them (not the kids ) u12 or u13 games...just stop!

most of the referees were not much older than the players and that is the problem. The older referees were just that old and imobile. As an aside the host town parents had bigger mouths than any club program I've encountered and intimidated the young refs as field marshalls whos kids played on the teams they were monitoring looked on. Boasted about quality officiating and there was none to be found.

So this is what really happened... Your team was involved in a physical game and lost. I have been in your shoes and it is very difficult to take sometimes. The reality probably was that not much was called and there were bad calls against both sides. I've seen it a hundred times. The loosing team looses sight of the real problem - their team is not as good as the other team - And they blame bad officiating for the lack of talent or preparation.

              Let's face it

If they were good referees they would not be doing U12G games. But I must say that usually if they are bad they are bad both ways.

They have to pay their dues, like anyone else. The bad calls go both ways. Soccer is a contact sport and at u12 or u13, unless there is a PK involved, refs dont swing outcomes of games

At U-12 or U-13 most of these refs are just starting out and are young and inexpierienced. You folks are concentrating on what the ref is doing instead of enjoying watching your kid play. At the town level not much happens at this age even if the game becomes physical. All the ref needs to do is call offsides, throw ins and keep the occasional player inline. Bad calls are part of the game and happen everywhere( look at the U.S men in world cup play this year!)In most games even at the premier level games are decided by play on the field not what the ref calls. Why not just look at yourself in the beginning of your career for example. Where you very good at your job? Unlikely until you gained some type of experience in the field. The same goes with officials so why not just chalk it up and enjoy the game instead of ripping an official up?
