The ECNL should absolutely do this. It would cater to the needs of 99% of the players whose goal is to play in college & would more than likely deal a death blow to the GDA.

The birth year mandate created problems & offered no benefits. It showed just how out of touch the Federation is with the customers that provide the funds to allow the youth soccer system to exist.

It also makes it so much easier for college coaches to shop by hs class

If they don’t fold, ECNL should run all their teams based on grad year to appeal to college coaches and all the college bound players! That would put ECNL out ahead of GDA for sure. Coaches looking for a 2022 just go to the G2022 matches. Easy! And 1/3 of players aren’t left without a team in 8th grade and senior year!

It would be the smartest thing to do and easiest thing to do since ecnl runs their own league and would be a death blow to GDA. Ecnl could still do birth year for their id2/talent identifying programs for national team hopefuls. If an ECNL team wanted to play in any outside tournament that was birth year, the team could simply play up in the older age bracket. Most ECNL teams do that now anyway. Honestly, can’t believe that ECNL hasn’t done this already. It would give ECNL a huge edge - even more than the benefit of allowing high school when GDA doesn’t.

Hello ya’ll, my daughter plays for Solar FC in TX, and I have been reading the GDA posts for about a week, Hahahaha, you guys have no clue how big GDA is outside your little area. My daughter is on the 04 NT, and she thinks ECNL is definitely the B league, hope ya’ll survive each other, bye bye....

There is no doubt that there are regional differences among the leagues.

There is also no doubt that here in the NE/Atlantic area, that the more competitive (and more even) league is ECNL currently. But both are waterered down as there is clearly still some high talent spread across both.
