you make it sound like every kid is in one league for 5 years. This is why any league taking credit for development is talking BS. Its a process with many inputs.

also why do you say the USSF? They are not the ones coaching.

How many top level coaches are there in College? 50? 150 ? 300 ? i think closer to 50 which means there is an awful lot of BS being spouted.

Right, you missed my point .... NYCFC never needed GDA or ECNL .... as an MLS team in the biggest city in the US, they already had deep pockets, a large population to draw from, a great name ..... who is US Soccer to tell them how to run their shop? They should not operate under the same premise as an "academy" team from OK or UT, let alone Portland, CT. Heck, if it was just Red Bulls and NYCFC in NYC, one team in BOS, one team in DC/BALT, one team in Philly ..... then you would have powerhouses that kids would beat the door down to have a spot. These MLS teams are not kindergartners that need a US Soccer to hold their hands .... they have money on the line.

You make it sound in all of your posts and if US Soccer has no input to the clubs or their own league. Are you high? They are the most controlling entity in soccer. You made it sound as if your kid learned everything she did in GDA .... sounds like she learned everything she did everywhere else. You can't learn ball skills when you only get one or two touches per possession as DA seems to espouse .... sorry, any kid that takes two touches from 5 years old through 15 will not be playing at a high level anywhere.

i think you have me confused with someone else. My kid learned from many people. Parents, friends, Coaches, teachers, TV. MANY people and MANY influences. Still learning in college. the only person i allow to take any credit is her mother.

you keep talking about this mythical creature..the GDA. Please explain to us how the USSF are controlling what GDA coaches do in practice every day. or at games.

NYCFC has zero real involvement in GDA. Why would NYCFC have any clue about girls ? what expertise do they have in that area? Unless they sent over one of the UK or Aus coaches to build up the program ( which they did not) why do you assume they did anymore than just lend the name? Maybe now, they see that they would have to get more involved directly and dont want to. maybe thy see the mess that is youth sports and say no thanks. maybe they see reputational risk in having someone not employed by them having the use of the brand

What money do they have on the line at Orangeburg ?

NYCFC have never been directly involved. it was/is no more than a brand of convenience that was used to allow Orangeburg to retain an ECNL and GDA interest at a time when the ECNL was forcing non founders to choose one or the other. They probabaly assumed it was low maintenance, but now when you see all the blowback, not worth it.

If NYCFC can not leverage the GDA into profit by using it to promote their brand, why would they be involved with it?

It’s completely possible that my daughter will have a harder time fitting into their program, because she close GDA.
So bail out! If she's good she'll find a home elsewhere.

That's true of almost all the GDA clubs - it's just a new patch. In one year few if any coaches had time to complete their mandates licensure. Not even all BDA coaches have it. The competition is different but not necessarily better, at least not consistently. The only difference is playing all year vs missing 2.5 months in the fall. Not even every club practices the mandated 4 times/week, again making it not very different from ECNL

I laughed and still do because it reminded me exactly what drives this stuff - money.
So what if they listened to their customers? They're a business and that will never change. That's why USSF never should have used for profit clubs to do all their heavy lifting.

Would be great if they reversed the age-bracket change, too.

If they don’t fold, ECNL should run all their teams based on grad year to appeal to college coaches and all the college bound players! That would put ECNL out ahead of GDA for sure. Coaches looking for a 2022 just go to the G2022 matches. Easy! And 1/3 of players aren’t left without a team in 8th grade and senior year!

The ECNL should absolutely do this. It would cater to the needs of 99% of the players whose goal is to play in college & would more than likely deal a death blow to the GDA.

The birth year mandate created problems & offered no benefits. It showed just how out of touch the Federation is with the customers that provide the funds to allow the youth soccer system to exist.
