Where the cost of living and operation costs are insane (it is supposed to be a nonprofit after all), nor is it central to all of the US for all the necessary travel? No, read that article and you'll see Chicago isn't the issue. It's the sh** show work environment and lack of leadership.

That piece was being discussed on the MA board also

      but holy s**t - i just checked their non-profit form 990 for 2018 and here's this:

      Total Compensation:

      Dan Flynn, CEO: $836,517
      Jay Berhalter, COO: $609,271

      Jurgen Klinsmann: $3,354,167
      Bruce Arena: $1,274,957
      Dave Sarachan: 251,784

      Jill Ellis: $318,533

      Andreas Herzog: $363,534 (MNT assistant)
      Tab Ramos: $345,297 (MU20 coach)

There's just so much to unpack here. Nearly $5mm in USMNT head coach salaries to *not* qualify for the World Cup. CEO/COO of non-profit taking home nearly $1.5 million (well above median comp). MNT youth and assistant coaches making more than USWNT head coach.

Can we talk about why the head coach of the most successful US National team makes more than $3millon less than the least successful coach?

It's a mess top to bottom, from senior management all the way down the line.

How is the college coach turnout? Especially compared to the turnout at the ECNL Nationals?

ECNL is guilty of having a national event but at least the rest of the year there are options for regional showcases with less travel. Teams just have to meet their required # of events for their age group. GDA only has national events and only one was centrally located this year, all mandatory (although some teams still bowed out).

Hard to say, as they were everywhere. I chatted with many (over a dozen) and all were going to both events. Both East and West coast, and interior, coaches.

I'm genuinely curious to see what the split looked like between coaches attending GDA playoffs and ECNL playoffs.

Not a lot of coaches at the NYSC 02/03 games that’s for sure

Can't tell for sure. As I spent much of my time in a bar if not in a game, I chatted up anyone who was a college-coach. Never said where I was from just a "you in for the DA or ECNL games"? All said they were going to both.

Coaches know that no one league has all the talent. They'll shop a few few venues that net the players they need. It's no different than before when ECNL was #1 and coaches still shopped NPL and others as well. All that has changed is what badge some players are under now.

Agree - Also looking at coach lists from both many of the same coaches school were at least listed as going to both. The few particular coaches I personally know of were going to both.
