Probably because it's a cra* league and they have to cobble together a roster for each game because the players have other jobs? Do you think there's any money in the budget for travel? They probably roster whoever is in driving distance on game day....anyway that's my guess.

Copa NJ has painted vans for their teams. I'm sure the funding came from their youth soccer program.

Typically with the college and reserve type players, their schedules are constantly changing, so having a roster of 30-40 makes sense. Some college players are considered training players when it comes to these semi pro teams and at times the reserves cannot make games due to their potential professional duties/ debut. Travel also is a factor. College players most likely have class or internships, so they are seeing players on a rotational basis.

Because unpaid players have jobs and lives that they can't get away from all the time, especially for long road trips.

New York Surf Soccer Club has launched the NY Surf Boys Academy. Joining NY Surf to lead the Boys Academy Program are Winston Buddle and Jeff Matteo, who will work collaboratively with the rest of the NY Surf leadership team.

Two top-class coaches, Winston Buddle and Jeff Matteo bring an incredible amount of value and experience to the club, and NY Surf knows that the Boys Academy players will be in great hands under their guidance.”

For nearly 20 years, Buddle has been widely regarded as one of the premier youth soccer coaches in the NY metro area. He is renowned for both his vast knowledge of the game and his ability to convey that knowledge to youngsters in a manner that is positive and nurturing.

Cuddle has been appointed the Technical Director of the NY Surf Boys Academy Program.

In addition to serving as Boys Technical Director, Winston will continue to serve as Head Coach of the existing Golden Touch B’99 team that will play as “NY Surf – Golden Touch B’99 Academy” during 2017-2018 as well as coaching a younger aged Westchester-based Academy team.

Jeff Matteo is in his 10th season coaching at his alma mater, St. Johns where he helped guide the Red Storm to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including one trip to the NCAA College Cup, two BIG EAST Tournament crowns and one BIG EAST regular season title. Hired prior to the 2007 season, Matteo returned to Queens following a five-year professional career that included stints in both the United States and Italy.

Matteo says the “NY Surf Academy Program will play a critical role in the development of our players, and this is a responsibility that will not be taken lightly. Along with Winston Buddle and the leadership at NY Surf, we will be focused on providing a top-flight environment for the athletes who play within our system.”

NY Surf’s 2017-2018 Boys Academy tryouts are taking place across their player pools in Nassau County, Suffolk County, Westchester and Queens. Register for tryouts today at www.nysurfsoccer.org.

Not as impressive as the girls side. Having a youth coach bring a team and work part time sounds so cheesy. What does this mean for the ISA guy they took last year?
