Why does he bash Rough Riders? I thought he protected his advert buyers?

Larry got pissed that the Rough Riders are apparently part of this Long Island SC GDA program.

NY Surf lands Meghan Frey as Girls DOC

Just saw on the NY Surf website that Meghan Frey is their new Girls DOC...Meghan is amazing. They really have some top coaches over.

Why does he care as long as they buy advertising?

There were 5 from NYSC 01 at Surf tryout. Saw some others in deifferent ages With final NYSC tryout tonight, maybe more will show next week.

The issue with Surf is that they still don't have league affiliations to attract top players -- especially for how much they are charging. They aren't even in EDP Division 1 for most (if not all) ages.

Are tryouts at these age groups (U15-U18) usually very big? I'd have guessed that at these ages, most kids are pretty settled with where they are and only a few who want to make a jump are attending. I guess with GDA there is a little more incentive to make that jump, but still doesn't feel like a lot of kids would be moving.

I was under the impression that their fees are very low considering how much training and how many tournaments it includes?

They no longer have the costs on their site, but it is nearly $3k/year. For the leagues they are playing in, you can play for Atletico or other "academy"-type teams for significantly lower cost. Don't get me wrong, I like Surf, but they will not attract top players unless they have some other path to offer. Right now, they have been all talk and this past year didn't help build them up.

If I recall correctly, the fee covers year-round training, including winter and summer, plus something like 5-6 tournaments. If that's true, $3K isn't bad.

So Meghan Frey is the big DOC announcement we have been waiting almost a year for? What a joke. Does she even have USSF C license? Surf will never be anything of significance locally. Now Valencia rolls out an academy across the street from where Nassau Surf trains. That is going to make it even harder.

Because East Meadow is part of it and Larry hates East Meadow. The shots against the Rough Riders are just collateral damage related to his hatred of East Meadow (i.e. East Meadow pulled their sponsorship of BOTN a few years back).

You are so wrong - she has the best reputation in NY Metro as the top trainer and she turned down a GDA DOC role for Surf...Surf by far has the best and highest licensed coaching staff in NY Metro. Kudos to the non-profit for striving to be the best player development club in NY Metro.

Boy that last sentences is a typical BOTN larry-written plug. When you make statements like that you have to compare the Boys side of the club - nobody highly licensed there for the most part ... and it's all the 'retreads' that Surf/LM so roundly mocked last year. The father/son team may be ok (I don't know) but they don't have any pedigrees.
