The last two posts are about ECNL players not making the ODP roster and ODP competition being better than GA. Is there a different ODP you guys are talking about?

The girls that I know that play ODP, weren’t even starters on their club team- so might want to pump the brakes on the “All star teams” lol. Wow, kind of crazy to think that’s the case -

The tryouts were flooded with all top ECNL clubs and many did not make the cut. Not because they aren’t good but because not every player at ECNL is better than everyone else and when put against all talent across the state they don’t always stand out. Reminder - ECNL teams elect themselves. For example: PDA has 3 ECNL teams at each age group and two (white and south) are not even close to the level of a mid local rec team. Yet they are elected by themselves to ECNL.

ODP is beneficial for smaller clubs and township players who are top players on their team respectfully. The training by ODP coaches is honestly a joke. The games are worth it for the players but the ultimate goal is to make it to the summer invite only training camp. That actually just changed a few years ago.
As a parent that has now been on both sides, my opinion is in line with the above. Players in EDP or lesser leagues should make an effort to play in ODP. Players in ECNL or GA should avoid ODP with the exception of the players who do not get a lot of playing time.

ODP also conflicts directly with ECNL practices, games and tournaments. Exceptions might be made for deep bench players.

ODP is run better now than it was 10 years ago when they kept kids in the program because they came from top clubs. It is unbiased today, tryouts every year.
Players in academies are privileged, some players going from club to club, Red Bull’s to CSA to PDA to Philly Union and back, and the coaches just start the newly acquired players. There is no competition.
So when you tell those players they have to tryout like everyone else, they break down, like the low mental toughness they have.
Also, it wasn’t until DA, now MLS Next, where I first saw a team get outplayed, and give up. It WASN’T at the town level where I first saw that. And the teams are exactly same, so there was no reason for mental breakdowns!
ODP gives kids a chance to get out of the *****ty situation they’re in. They should use it!
