Doesn’t make it right,It just says a lot about youth soccer. It’s not truly a meritocracy but more like a place that is set up to support their own bias and egos.
Yes I am sure it does. But STA is not PDA. They think they are the same level but definitley not. They also preach being a family Club but are selective on who is "Family" I've seen kids of lesser talent get special privileges because mommy or daddy are pals with Tim or Kelly or even Ylon

Yes. It's everywhere. It's never meritocracy. Like the rest of US, it's based on who you know and whether you are in the person's good book or not.

This was our experience. Good riddance.

IF this is truly the case then the better players who are not treated like the others will simply leave. It seems like they are" cutting off their noses to spite their faces"

Not a very smart thing to do when they should be doing everything they can to keep their players-especially with such competition in their back yard.

Ii find its best to be as even handed as possible, except when you have a truly gifted athlete, that needs to play up. But this should be examined every year as girls develop differently through puberty.

If families feel that teams have an in group that gets different privileges' by DOC or coaches, that are not necessarily based on merit, they will flee from mediocre clubs as soon as the season is over.

the only lunch thats being eaten are the cheesesteaks by DB at match fit.

that reminds me to recommend always to bring a cheesesteak or an alcoholic beverage for the coach when coming for tryouts. make a positive first impression. getting on that ecnl team is the first win in your life

Make no mistake. People leave and STA doesn’t care because they’re not about development or even winning at this point. There will be another family that will replace the the one that left.

Spot on. They just rinse and repeat. This is true on both sides boys and girls. They rarely reward players on teams that should move up but keep them in place to bring the new families into higher teams. Make no mistake though not much different anywhere else unless your kid is a favorite or a true talent. Club youth soccer in NJ is all about power and resentment. Sometimes the club has the power when they dictate playing time to average players or reward favorites. Parents can take the power back when they realize that they can have power if they are willing to not chase the badge or club name. When they realize that they find the best opportunity for their children sometimes at places like STA, PDA but more often at smaller clubs it works out. I have experience with STA and I found their coaches mainly emotional immature and lacking in true coaching ability. Some great trainers, some decent motivators if your kid was liked but pretty mediocre at best. There are a couple of good ones. They were also kind of gimmicky with the beyond pulse and the techne futbol and other things. They are very good at marketing and presenting themselves, less so at doing something with all the talent they have with the monopoly in this geographic area.

If you are in the boat where you believe that STA (or any other club) exists for the sake of the development of your child, there are 2 cases under which you would leave:

1: You are "top", and believe that another club will offer you a better challenge or better showcasing.

2: You are "not top", and are struggling to improve and to get play minutes on your team.

Every club owner and every DOC is fully aware of these conditions. Hence, their job is to convince:
1: Part of the "top" that they can still develop (better than elsewhere) and the kid will be showcased (perhaps via inclusion to ID2 or National Team like events)
2: Part of the "bottom" that perhaps there is a better option to develop within the club, or if the person is leaving, not to be a disgruntled quitter.

There are so many right conditions to leave the team and there are also plenty of wrong ones. Sometimes, it may be to your benefit to call the DOC/Owner and discuss your situation.

They care now that most of the top talent left. They are not nearly as competitive now as when in DA

3: you are a good player and in the middle of the pack and your child dislikes the favoritism given to other players also in the middle of the pack. Basically, they are creating a non inclusive environment by their antics.

if you are in a middle of a pack and want to switch clubs you are probably just making things harder on yourself, unless you're downgrading.

also, in about 75% of the "favoritism" cases not only its hard to prove, i sense a lot of it ends up being disgruntled parents who expect their kid to be a star in a team environment. sometimes, its about a competition for a specific position, or even balance of the team.

if you're disgruntled and have not addressed your grievances with DOC - probably better to leave.

Yeah in a perfect world you'd be able to get honest feedback and have some trust established where you can rely on the trainer's feedback. What happens when you ask and get no feedback? Or responses in generalities?

Sometimes it's not unrealistic parents, it's ******* coaches that need to justify their decisions and biases by lying and avoiding you. My daughter was treated like **** after I had the nerve to ask polite questions about her placement.

Newman has been, and always will be about the checks coming in. He doesn’t care about quality. STA have never been an elite club. They only did well at some ages because of Cryer and Tim chewed him up and spat him out. Borderline town program. Name one significant team they have ever had that didn’t come from the Stallions. It’s quantity over quality. Newman has lawyer and court fees to pay.

Did this start with Newman? Or was this an issue prior to him purchasing STA? Tim predates Newman as far as I know.

Sounds like the give does not fit. It happens and it inhibits growth. Time to move on.
