The problem with GA and the ECNL is very similar, it’s the parents. The GA now have learned their lesson and are not competing with ECNL they want to develop their own league and are not looking “over their shoulder” but rather to constantly improve heir league. It will be a work in progress. Parents are the ones who will continue to draw comparisons. Here is something I learned while both my girls played ECNL & GDA. Neither league made my girls better players. They were both identified by colleges because of their athleticism, speed and quickness. They also loved playing soccer and would go hit balls against walls for their “one touch” and use cones for their technical skill development. They would go and play “for fun” in the parks for pick up games and work on their moves. They looked online for “strength training and conditioning” that they did on their own. My point is that neither league defined my girls or their path to playing in college. Neither league or club/team will guarantee they will play in college. If you have to push them to go to practice or to do extra training then neither league will make a difference. The smart parents with “experience “ knows exactly what I am saying.

On to GA, I think everyone should just be honest with themselves about the situation. On the whole, it seems like a bad deal long-term. There are a lot of negatives (which have already been mentioned here) that can't be easily dismissed, but there are redeeming qualities (especially on a per-team basis). I think everyone should just settle down and see what happens. Let's wait until try out season and see how everything looks then.

GA teams will still have some excellent players, many of whom would make ECNL teams easily. The thing is we will never get 100% consolidation. Many kids who are top 5 on a current GA or NL team will not risk going to the ECNL teams to be player 11 or worse, not starting. That is a valid worry. Going to a team and going from playing 80%+ to playing 15 minutes is not fun.

I'm sure there is still some talent left on GA teams and that will certainly continue.

She is getting great training within the club and outside training. At this point I am hoping I can get her exposure by either going to College ID camps and maybe GA Showcases. If the end result is she gets to college of her choice as well as becoming a solid player, I don't care what league she is in. Yes I do have some concerns but that is our plan.
