If Guest players are allowed from EDP then who cares!! It’s within the rules, you can do the same if you choose to. If you don’t it’s better for your team (more playing time for the team players) one of my friends (the guy has very good knowledge about youth soccer) he said the best high level teams have 2-3 players on the bench..which came out to be true. It’s youth soccer! Let the boys play! This is the time to learn and develop. Wins are good and fun (earn you bragging rights sometimes) but those wins won’t matter 1-2 years from now. Keep them playing!

Really? I’m sorry you’re so miserable.

Joke is on your kid for having such a disappointment of a father.

assuming the poster is a father is one thing, but if she is a mom hey she is still not wrong

The person is 100% correct though. Be proud of your kid and their accomplishments, but keep in mind the competition level. I've heard people talk about how amazing their kid/kid's teams are only to find out they are in the 3rd flight of EDP and have never played anyone higher. That's perfectly fine, but they are shocked when the team loses 10-0 to a team from the top flight. I think people get too invested in this stuff for their own good.

You are just as jaded as the original post and trying to justify it with some sort of competition level explanation. The argument was that this guy was upset that people posted on social that their kid won a tournament but actually only won a flight…who cares. There is no need to censor people’s content in terms of youth soccer and play soccer police in terms of setting the facts straight. It’s a bit authoritarian.

No one is talking about being shocked when they play a better team etc. this simply started with trying to argue about what content people post…

That got you a little hurt. Was your kid on that team? This guy is right. Parents can be happy all they want. But they have no clue what when put up against higher level talent. Nothing wrong with that. But also nothing wrong with calling it out. Just like how parents of a u18 laughs at parents of u10 bragging about their soccer stars with no clue what really comes ahead. Do you tell those parents their kid is committing as a Middle schooler just to avoid hurting their feelings? rotfl

this thought process keeps proving the "we are the champions" post correct - the poster doesn't seem upset, she is simply pointing out that people and clubs embellish the actual accomplishment on social media - it happens all the time - that is what social media is - people on this board and in youth soccer know what that people stretch the truth for their family and social media friends - no biggie

Exactly. I'm not jaded; I'm being realistic where others may not be. Parents might not understand what is really going on if they have not had an older kid go through the youth soccer system already and/or if they didn't play at a high level. Again - this is completely understandable and I don't fault parents for bragging about their kids if they don't know better. I think it's better to educate other parents (in person if they ask, online I do it for free) rather than jump all over people for going all in on how amazing their kid is. Once people get the full picture they usually stop being facebook/instagram fools.

So in your terms you would rather censor people for posting about their child winning a couple of games vs letting the rest of the world judge if it is “legitimate” or not? So it is your job to “re-educate” people on the precise terminology to use in a post so grandma and grandpa know little Johnny only won a flight and is not as good as they are pretending to be.

With your guidance they will stop posting such inane pictures and being such fools?

it sounds like you are just bitter their kids team didn’t win vs a group of teams with comparable talent. Now you just want to pee on someone else Cheerios.

Furthest from the truth. I don't care about what these people are posting or not posting. I actually find the entire thing funny when I see people posting stuff like winning the 10th flight at Jeff Cup or bragging to me in person about how awesome their kid's team is when they are playing EDP flight 3.

It doesn't matter where my kid plays for this conversation because I'm talking about perspective. If you must know, my oldest plays at the highest level in the state for their age and my youngest plays on a nice b team at very much not the highest level. There is nothing wrong with either scenario, but having those different experiences as well as seeing my oldest play at different levels over the years has given me perspective. My perspective is that you can say whatever you want to whomever you want, but that there is an ocean of difference in the quality of competition in tournament and league flights as well as other leagues. If you haven't had a kid playing at a high level then it's very easy to get caught up in the results of what reasonable people would term "lower level" competition. If you feel like that is me trying to pee in someone else's cheerios instead of sharing friendly advice/perspective, then you aren't understanding my point.

As a follow-up, people can and should share all of these memories with whomever they want judgement free. What I don't appreciate are clubs and coaches selling those same wins to try to get hapless parents to sign up for their teams. From the parents side, I just find it funny when people are true believers in those types of wins without the understanding I've described and try to force feed you how good their kid is.

No one should be ranking teams that young. This country's soccer system is such a joke
