So obviously your child benefitted from the age change and you are happy that your child is on the older side. The school aged schedule never left 8th and 12th graders without a team. No one is complaining because they are now younger it’s because they do not have a team. What is so hard to understand??

Is mostly an issue for younger 8th graders whose teams are HS-aged and don't have a fall season (most of those players are playing HS soccer). For example, 06 players are U15 now, but there are some players born in 06 who are in 8th grade. U15 has no fall season and 8th grade has no HS soccer, so those young 06 players have no place to play unless the league their team plays in allows 06 players to play down in U14 in the fall. Asking why EDP leagues don't allow this is a completely reasonable question. And even if the league does allow it, it impacts the roster size and playing time of those U14 teams, which sucks for a lot of players.

For the trapped U18 players (eg. U18 players who are juniors on a team of mostly seniors), the issue is that there are fewer showcases for U18s, and many seniors are less motivated to travel for those showcases since they are already have their future figured out. Some showcases allow trapped U18 players to play with U17 teams, which helps, but have similar issues regarding how it impacts roster sizes and playing time.
See, you take it for granted that your kid will always play for their team, Why? So what if your kid has to move clubs or play with different kids. They want to play right? So what if the league they want doesn't have teams...A good club would find a solution by either moving leagues for that team or scheduling scrimmages until HS is done. Their are solutions just no one wants to put in the work or they feel like they should never have to give up what they got before player wise.

But they were still left with out a team just a year later when parts of the team would do HS. This isn't a new issue just shifted. For the record my kid didn't benefit. They were youngest on the team before being near the Aug 1st cut off and went up an age group after the change so still the youngest but now by more. I believe players should play based on skill along with age and know a dozen players playing up 2yrs for township while also playing Div 1 USYS at age level.

I think I would rather practice all fall with the older kids, then have to play down every year. Find a unsanctioned league, middle school or private trainer for the fall. Your child will be better off for it in HS and possible college recruiting.

They were never left without a team as it was based on school year. And they always turned the age of 15 if they played u15. Now they are turning 14 while playing u15. Also your daughter is in the middle not the youngest as December is the last month of the year not August.

The u15 or 15u doesn't matter as it is just 2006 and next year it will be 2007 so don't get caught up in that garbage. And the cut off used to be Aug 1st so the youngest were usually born in May-July. When the change occurred she moved to the year above hers as in did not play age appropriate. So she was then playing against girls born as much as a year and a half older. She was the baby of the team by 6 months.

All of this is a mute point though....If your kid wants to play, there is always a place to play. Different team/same club, different club, different league ... something. You seem to be more caught up in complaining about your kid not being able to play with his friends on that team and going from older to youngest.

No, they are complaining that their 8th grader doesn't have a team to play soccer in the fall. They can't play HS and they can't play club unless the club belongs to a league that allows for trapped players to play down a year.

It's not a single league issue, but its an issue for the biggest competitive league organization out there.

What other leagues in this area allow for trapped 8th graders play down an age group?

In our area, what league can they move to?

The point is that the older kids are playing HS and have limited or no club practices in the fall. And if your kid is a strong player, those unsanctioned leagues, middle school teams etc won't help anything.

You CHOSE to have your daughter play up so that is on you! The fact is the 8th graders and 12th graders are left without a team not by their choice. They don’t have a team to play on period

You are still not getting it. It used to be that players were on teams where everybody was in the same grade. 8th graders played with 8th graders, 9th graders played with 9th graders. So there were no 8th graders who were left without a club team. But now there are 8th graders (born in 06) whose club team rosters are 50% 9th graders, and those teams don't have a fall season. The 9th graders play HS soccer and the 7th graders still have club. But those trapped 8th graders can't play HS and don't have a club team with a fall season.

12th graders can find composite teams pretty easily. The issue is that when those older 11th graders who are on U18/19 composite teams are looking for showcases to play in, many of the showcases don't have U18/19 brackets, or even if they do, most of the 12th graders on those teams have no interest in playin in them, especially in the 12th grade spring; for the older 11th graders, that spring is crucial and they are trapped. ECNL has a thing where those trapped players can play down with the U17 teams, but many other leagues and showcases don't have that rule.

All of you are missing the point.....This "new" issue of trapped 8th graders isn't anything new. This is no different then when teams became/become HS eligible. Not everyone wants or does play HS in the fall. This issue was only extended down into the 8th grade because of the change but no one ever bothered with reforming teams to compensate. You are feeling that your kid should be playing on his team but because of the rules, can't.

And what information does someone have that EDP will not have u16 or higher league for fall? They had more than enough teams apply.
