Just curious why is it that EDP doesn’t do anything for “trapped” players born from Oct to December to play down when the majority of their team for day an 8 math grader would be playing High School already. Why not have a system where those kids cold play down for the fall and then return to their original team like ECNL does? Isn’t the idea for kids to play more soccer and not less because they were born assuring the “wrong” month?

Some leagues allow for playing down in the fall, some don't. Your club will know what your child's team is allowed to do - if they don't then they're not very well run.

It needs to change and there is talk of it going back for all but MLS/GAL, but not this year with all the other chaos going on.

Don't most clubs have a composite team for the seniors and shuffle players around during HS to fill spots on those teams?
The age change was years ago. If you are still complaining about it then you need to take a look at your kid and club. The only parents, and I say parents because the kids rarely complain about it if ever, I see complain about it are the ones with kids that aren't starting over younger players.
Honestly though, concerning the odd years, clubs should pull their heads out of their butts and have a 1yr merge if they need players. Most town teams start dying at the 8th grade, HS years so why not merge with a town or 2 next door? Most academies should not have issues fielding teams.

Says the parent whose child is not in this category who benefited from the change. My son plays on a U15 team this fall and will not turn 14 until December. They did not account for these kids when they changed from school year to birth year for soccer.

Trapped players are pooped on and marginalized. No club for 8th or 12th trapped players.
Born Sept-Dec? You are out of luck!!!!! Go run cross country...
F U whoever had this bright idea.

For the trapped U18 players (eg. U18 players who are juniors on a team of mostly seniors), the issue is that there are fewer showcases for U18s, and many seniors are less motivated to travel for those showcases since they are already have their future figured out. Some showcases allow trapped U18 players to play with U17 teams, which helps, but have similar issues regarding how it impacts roster sizes and playing time.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostDoesn't sound like you understand the trapped-player issue. Is mostly an issue for younger 8th graders whose teams are HS-aged and don't have a fall season (most of those players are playing HS soccer). For example, 06 players are U15 now, but there are some players born in 06 who are in 8th grade. U15 has no fall season and 8th grade has no HS soccer, so those young 06 players have no place to play unless the league their team plays in allows 06 players to play down in U14 in the fall. Asking why EDP leagues don't allow this is a completely reasonable question. And even if the league does allow it, it impacts the roster size and playing time of those U14 teams, which sucks for a lot of players.

For the 8th grader who is missing a fall season with their regular team because it is made up mostly of 9th graders who are playing HS, the only "option" they have is to find a team that plays in a league that allows these trapped 8th graders to play down an age-group (like ECNL does). Asking why EDP doesn't do this is a legit question considering how big EDP is getting. Merging clubs at the 8th grade and above doesn't solve the problem of the trapped 8th graders who have no league that gives them a chance to play.
