It has nothing to do with developing players. Kids on town teams or bigger clubs who aren't happy for whatever reason look to move teams and because these bigger clubs fit that mold where they feel they might have a better chance at succeeding or developing they're brought in to train with the existing team. If that player is good or shows promise the coach will try and sign them to the club. Some players accept, some players decline, while other players tell the coach they want to remain loyal to their current club and will finish the year. The coach will most likely ask them to come on as a practice player. Players that choose to sign with the team are now part of the current team and if they're more talented than an existing player they will take their spot. Is this something 9, 10 or even 11 year olds will understand? Probably not, but this is the spot their parents chose to put them in and are the only ones to blame. Parents need to understand how these big clubs work before they sign their kid up. In most cases all they care about when they originally sign is the name status of playing for one of these bigger clubs and don't understand that being on the team doesn't guarantee you playing time.
For the other scenario, if a new kid comes on the roster then there should be an honest competition for the spot(s) and playing time. The honest part of that is what is missing sometimes. I've seen coaches take players that aren't better than the existing roster and play them over those existing players just to make the new parents happy/stay past the season. This is where the issues arise. If said new kid is better and the existing roster doesn't rise to the challenge/work harder then I get it. This isn't always the case.

Honestly, I don't condone bringing on more kids mid-season unless you are operating at a deficit (i.e. you have 13 kids on a full sided roster) but that's just my thing. Outside of that, I don't agree with brining on enough kids to form an entire second team. Kids tried out and made an A team and shouldn't be shifted down to a B team that faces a different level of competition. I understand that club contracts allow this (parents should actually read them before signing), but I think it's total crap. A coach is making the choice for that to happen.

As far as the bait and switch and replacing a whole team, that is just a **** move and clubs that do that UI would stay away from. If that situation happens at my kids club, I would would be looking elsewhere.

Just a dumb statement all around.
There are dumb statements made on this board every day. This is not one of them.

We were told up front she would not be a starter, and that was ok for us as it sets goals for her to get better and earn her playing time.

Agreed regarding the team replacement. Complete dick and money grubbing move by a coach and club to allow that to happen.

Some people don't like that prior to HS age) and that he's big into cardio. He makes his teams run A LOT (I mean miles), sometimes until kids puke. I think that's a bit much but I get it. Playing full sided with GA sub rules mean you need a lot of endurance. Also, having better than another team might cover up some technical deficiencies on a roster. I personally don't care for the yelling or the level of running, but I can see why some people wouldn't like him for it.

My kid was on a team and was never called out for or corrected on anything and it has really hurt her and she has some really bad habits. We went to a training session and immediately was called out on things which her previous coach said her and her old team mates needed to 'figure out'.Not for nothing, but most of the game is running and requires the kids to be able to have the endurance. This is where the kids and the parents decide whether the team/club is right for them. My kid hasn't puked yet.
