I don't think the full implications of GAL will be known until the full rules are released, such as what a schedule will look like. I think the one clear thing is that ECNL is the top girls league in NJ and the rest of the country. Unless there is a new entry (such as the potential MLS-sponsored girls league) or GAL attracts back the former DA teams that left for ECNL, then GAL is clearly not the same as ECNL. I don't have a kid in either, just calling it like it is right now.

Logistics plays such a big part and it is always amazing when people dont account for this. Current club was DA, going GA and we arent ecstatic about it but the reality is that between two working parents and other children in the house, we have no idea how we will get our duaghter to the club we would like to move to. Maybe in a year or so when she ages up into when they practice at night but right now, when they are practicing at 6-630pm, there's simply no way to get there 3x per week.
Yes, i do account for the fact that it is just girls soccer. If it was for a boy and IF (jumbo sized 'if' here) i thought he had a reasonable chance at pro, I would make some sort of arrangement at work but is that effort worth it to move a girl to an ECNL team when my gut feeling is that 50% at a NE school is a realistic hope, 3-4 years from now? She's a very good player, top 3-4 on her team last year, but that extra time and effort to play ECNl could be used to help keep her grades up and, done correctly a little soccer $ and a little academic and we'd be where we want, anyway. No idea if this is correct and i might change my mind tomorrow, though.

That being said, if the kid is young enough (i.e. not ready for U13 and above) then waiting to make the switch due to the circumstances you described seems fine. Of course there is always the fear of missing the initial run to get on one of the ECNL rosters, but if your kid is good enough they should be okay trying next later or later. I'd focus on keeping them on a competitive team, facing competitive competition, and in an environment that actually develops your kid. If you have to put your kid in a bunch of outside training because the current coach basically just scrimmages, then I would get them out of there.

I also have to add that you won't get many folks posting logical statement on TS. Its like parents turn into a bunch of rude kids on here. Just classless. Everyone needs to do what is right for their family and situation. I for one believe there are some positive aspects with this new GAL league. I would love to see it work out. And I don't care if its better than ECNL. If my daughter can continue to develop and get seen by collage coaches then thats all we want.
