Bingo - no way is ECNL unscathed through this whole shutdown. The coronavirus has changed the youth soccer landscape, and anyone that doesn’t think so, doesn’t have a brain.

Disposable income will be way down for many people, as well as lots of new perspectives as to is youth soccer really a worthwhile $10k per year investment? Not to mention many may balk at flying and driving through different states, I think this was already happening - questioning whether all the travel was worth it - corona crisis will further make people question everything about youth soccer.

This is the real reason why the news has come out (ECNL club was the source) and the hard push all over Twitter (everyone "source" has ECNL ties). They need to latch onto players to replace those who could be affected negatively.

Lots of players hopes to play in either league or other leagues as well will not survive this recession/depression. There are very difficult days ahead for many families.

But the great thing about soccer is that is can be played very cheaply. Hopefully, that will serve many players well going forward.

I know this is still widely ignored and underestimated but I think you are correct if families encounter financial difficulties as a result of the economy then they will have no choice but to look for more affordable yet still competitive options. The reality is that although these teams still exist, there are not many out there. So beginning research now might be prudent

DA went to war with ECNL and lost.

Let the DA parents rot...players will suffer for this.

To the victors go the spoils.
did DA lose? or did they realize that the structure in place does not meet their stated goals? Far better to put the cost of developing players on the actual clubs that benefit as opposed to parents. Once you decide that GDA is done.

If the USSF has to offer the same terms to boys and girls, then GDA has to be done. Fact is, the GDA cannot deliver on its stated goals of player development because unfortunately that is not how parents look at it and there is no other entity who will pay. NWSL has what, 9 teams? No way they are equipped to pay for a developmental league and training for youth players.

Those who look at this as two entities doing the same thing are wrong. Basically this boils down to the USSF being unable to change parents minds about player development.

This is very true. I spoke to parents that don’t even want to hear about soccer until they can figure out essential payments. People makes fun of it but it is the reality in many households, then there’s clubs, won’t mention names, that are expecting fees of over $2000. Some already sending emails with registration in mind. Some giving heads up about purchasing new uniforms. Most have not decide the route they’ll be taking. GDA may not be in the picture next season. Who knows

                  Match fit is terrible.

What does traveling all over creation and wasting money on plane tickets have to do with player development? Maybe ussf underestimated that parents are not total fools and don't want to throw their money away on wasteful travel that does not help their players improve their soccer game.

Surely hasn't hurt the other league. Maybe that league got all the players who don't seem to mind and those who were left, do mind.

Not enough fools to go around for 2 big wasteful leagues. Ussf is not good at counting up the correct fool tally.

ECNL wants a good number of the GDA players to make it competitive. ECNL isn't competitive. A lot of weak teams brought in to give it numbers after the fallout.

Everyone calm down.... biggest fake news ever

Its almost sad that the USSDA allowed this to go on as long as they did, and to that I am referring to the rumors and conjecture of its demise.

Rest assured everyone, the USSDA on both the girls and boys side is not going away. An announcement will be out tomorrow that the season is shuttered, but the DA will continue to go on as per normal.

Imagine all the fake news that has come out on this topic, all the mud slinging, all the chatter about everything.

                            All for nothing, FAKE NEWS.

                            USSDA goes on.

Maybe USSoccer has the guys (all of them including MLS affiliates) pay for their DA expenses like the girls.

Keep both leagues and have them compete against each other. It is always good to have competition.

                              And/or bring back competitive ODP.

I agree. May be some restructuring within but no way ussoccer lets it happen this way.
