If you are not teaching to play properly at U11-U13 it will show at these older ages. Let me check 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, not good, right. Probably at age of 11, 12 and 13 these MFA teams were dominating PDA and PF teams, well how that turn out for you? It is development silly, not a wining column.

Go watch last night Notre Dame vs Stanford finish and tell me what would have happened if Standford built out of the back rather than going direct.
crazy finish:

Why does most of the world play small sided for longer than we do in the US? Why do coaches even MFA coaches play small sided games in tight spaces?
it’s to get the kids more touches on the ball for DEVELOPMENT. Why does that disappear in games? to WIN. If you want them to develop in games same principles apply. The kids need to touch the ball and make decisions, mistakes are okay, goals given up building out are okay, not just “get it up”, not just clearing, not just punting. It’s not that complicated.

Real possession is about methodically and patiently building between the lines to get to goal. I don’t care how good you think your daughters are… no team in Jersey or PA can play that way (or is even taught to for that matter).
If there were no playoffs for the ECNL below u15 - coaches and clubs could focus on development, but they can’t b/c idiots on talking soccer still would be talking about who is better or worse.
The best coaches teach when to possess the ball and when to be direct- which is completely situational. Punting only is stupid, so is only building out of the back, so is only playing “possession”, so is only being direct. So is only relying on tall players, so is only relying on fast players, etc.

To play it all game long at the youth level is just not smart from a development perspective, it’s not debatable “possession coach”. The kids need to touch the ball more not less.
parents at PDA used to complain to their coach that Tobin Heath dribbled too much (and made mistakes and cost them the game). Look how that turned out.

And all these parents out here ragebaiting on literal kids need to go and reflect on their lives. These kids are young and will have time to develop. Focus on your own kid and stop roasting others just because your daughter isn't good enough to get onto elite teams at this age. Please and thank you
