You would walk away if a car dealership did that and go buy an suv somewhere lease. In this case you can not walk away because they have your money and odds are you cannot find a new team because it is to late. It is a bait and switch. No one can justify a clubs action for doing this
Yes, but unfortunately we all (should) know that these roster changes are always possible. Never take a coaches' rough guesstimates from the spring about what the team will look like the following year. Everything about youth sports is always subject to last minute changes! (Haven't you seen the way these tournaments are organized)

everyone knows MFA screws other people's kids but they don't think it will happen to their kid that made the team because their kid is a special player

This is exactly right. We were tricked into participating in this scenario- no info shared with parents about roster size or game rosters until after all of the payments were due. The timing could not have been a coincidence. By the time we had this info, all the decent teams were not looking for players and we were stuck. It was a learning experience for all of us and at least now we are aware that this is common. Personally I think this is only acceptable for U15 and up. U14 and below kids have to play in games for development and any club that rosters more than 18 does not care about development- only $$.

what club is this? You don’t have to mention age group. But sounds very familiar.

There was recently a whole thread on this (https://talking-soccer.com/TS4/forum...-playing-games) and also a similar discussion on the PA forum.

Parents need to stick to the only way that makes sense , if your kid is a top 6- 7 player on a team and there happy then stay , doesn’t matter what league . Any body who’s confused or not sure then that tells you it’s time to go where your child is appreciated. It’s simple and always realize only you as the parent care about your kid at the end of the day bc even kids on same team are competing for time , it’s a shame but that’s the climate that we are given

Imo it's borderline OK to have the bigger roster if the team is one of the many who enter 2 leagues for the season. That's a lot of games for a normal 16 player roster. In that case though, the issue could become whether the practices are still effective with so many kids. The team probably needs an assistant coach if it's 20+.

I agree with this. After all this… it’s us parents who only care about our kid. If they don’t play much… why stay there? We want to see them play right? Who care the level. ECRL and EDP and pretty close if you ask me. If you are good enough to play significant minutes in ECNL or GA then go there. If not.. choose a team where the et will actually play. That’s the whole purpose of practicing skills….to put them in use.

My daughter’s u11 team has more than the 16 girls allotted to roster so some are sitting out every week. We were told we would rotate who stays home but it’s usually the same girls over and over.

Typical slimy stuff that goes on , put the parent and club aside there is a little girl who was picked for a team and wants a chance to play , grown men hurting little girls , I’ve seen it many times
