if the change goes through - shouldn't they just start with the incoming U8s and then build out to all the age groups gradually? In other words, year 1 is the incoming U8s with the new cutoff dates. Year 2 is the U8s and U9s. Year 3 is the U8s and U9s and U10s and so on ...

is there any downside to this approach??

seems very unfair to move the goal posts and create this massive chaos for the older age groups

When they went from grade to birth year it impacted everyone. There was plenty of talk to do what you suggested but they decided to change it for everyone. I'd be surprised if they didn't revert to all ages switching back to grades.

Some clubs will keep a hold of those better younger players and play them "up" a grade to stop them from moving elsewhere. Parents will fall for it and believe the hype from those clubs as well.

Yes. The downside is all of the trapped players above u9 would remain trapped and next year u9 age group would be comprised of kids only from 7 months.

is it still likely for MLSn to remain Jan 1 to Dec 31 even if the change goes through for the other leagues?
