Daughter has played club for years. Starter on a mid level team. High school jv coach loved her freshman and sophomore year. Varsity coach doesn’t like her (she is more of a quick passer type of player and he likes carry the ball and shove on through). Coach told her there are three better center mids and I barely ever sub You won’t get playing time on V. The other CM are juniors also. Would you advise her to quit and run xc until club season (already pd for so she’s playing)? Or suck it up and be an embarrassed jr playing JV? Leaning towards XC as high school should be fun but worried she will miss it.

If she will have fun with Friends on JV…. Play. If it will be a miserable experience, don’t play. Zero soccer benefit in playing JV soccer

I have a kid in the same situation.
Mids that can quickly pass / distribute are valuable in club because coaches play more of a possession game.
HS is kind of like college. There isn't a huge emphasis on possession or training players to play as a team. All that matters is speed, size, and aggression. This is what your coach is looking for.
You can't make a blockhead conform to playing "the right way". The coach is trying to run your kid off so he doesn't need to play them. Personally I'd still go for Varsity just to make the coaches life hell + to force him to make a decision. If he puts your kid on the JV team treat it like a rec league and show up when you feel like it. If your kid is a senior in 8 months it won't matter.

Sounds like there could be more to it. If CM is spoken for, why not utilize her at another position?

How much has the varsity coach actually seen her play? Big roster or small?
If Varsity is being offered but simply with the idea that she might not see the field much, I would still recommend getting on Varsity. JV is useless if she's actually any good. Being on Varsity, she'll have the opportunity to show the Varsity coach more of what she's capable of and maybe persuade him to give her more of a look. And if the team is really good, there will definitely be games against bad teams where she'll get on the field (no one keeps their starters in after 5-0). And lots can happen during the season...injuries/illness, etc.

Prefers ball carriers instead of distributors? Sounds like he should be coaching elementary school rec instead of varsity.
