    ECNL pay to stay

Our team will be playing in an ECNL showcase out of state this Spring. The cost of the ECNL mandated hotel is ridiculous. I understand there is a rule that a certain % of the team must stay at said hotel or the team would be disqualified. Is this actually true? Is anyone aware of this actually happening?

No truth to that. They certainly will try and threaten that but it's all a money grab!

Every league/showcase/tournament has the same pay to stay rules and in almost a decade paying for youth soccer I've never seen nor heard of any team get tossed from anything. I personally, haven't stayed at any sponsored hotel in years as I'd rather just pay the same or lower price to stay were I want and get the reward points or use them to lower travel costs.

There are usually a travel agency that is mandated, not a single hotel. If the only option is really expensive, you can usually call the contracted agency for other options

There is ZERO way they can enforce. We recently paid for entry Tickets at an event only to realize you could walk thru many other entrances that did NOT have a gate.

NOPE, ECNL parents think the hotels should pay them to stay there

I think the rule is 80% of team to stay at assigned hotel. The ECNL can penalize the club for breaking the rule. The travel arrangements are big business for ECNL and tournament sponsors. I assume this is a first for you. Plan to budget $10k a year for travel. Also, your d being with the team is a big part of the experience.

Teams rarely get punished for not complying but it has happened. All the big events have these forced travel agent arrangements. There's usually multiple hotel options but the good ones seem to go instantly.

One thing to consider besides cost is what is the distance to the fields? how hard will it be for your kid to hang with the rest of the team when they are 20 min away? You also lose the ease of carpooling with other players (important if you're juggling two players or other family members).

No matter what it's still going to cost you. Bend over and repeat "thank you sir, may I have another"

lol…not sure how it happens but PDA typically has the best hotels that are closest to the fields. PDA also takes tournaments seriously. There’s team debriefs, video analysis, strategy and most of all players are mandated to rest and recover. For disclosure, I’m not a PDA parent or trainer

That must be a Blue thing. We went to a few showcases with White and that has never happened. We're usually 30-40 minutes from field and they've never had team briefs, video analysis or anything else. I don't think the Coach even stayed at the same hotel.

That’s because PDA control the whole league. They manipulate everything from the hotels to the schedule to the three teams in one region to recruiting fellow clubs players and finally …… getting hotels closer to the field to keep their parents happy. Corrupt league.

Actually, teams are required to stay at hotels. With my older daughter a few years ago, one team did not and that team was not allowed to play in there games. ECNL brough in a local team to play the games. yes club do get penalized for no following rules
