At what age does it matter to match the type of cleat (FG vs AG) with the playing surface. The carpet/astroturf seems pretty clear, but are there issues with a U12 player using FG cleats on a slit film turf field?

Nike is horrible with this since their cheap cleats are AG and don't get to FG until the Pro level but you can buy a cheap pair of Adidas .3 or .2 on sale for turf and still not break the bank to bad on Nike FG cleats.

Go with Adidas “Copa Mundial”. It’s a solid boot for either turf or grass. It’s been around forever.

If more boys would simply transition to women that would definitely help with the statistics of women getting more ACL injuries than men.

Generally speaking you want to avoid any of the sharp blade/angular studs that are really common on the Nike mercurial FGs that everyone likes so much. You can look for AG cleats on european sites like unisport store just be careful to adjust for the size if they give you UK or EU sizes.
As mentioned you can also design your own on the Nike site and get them with the AG-Pro plate and those are the best. Those will run like 20 dollars more than the FGs but the bonus is you can pick your own colors which is kind of cool.
If you want an FG cleat that works pretty good also on AG, look for one with only round studs like the Adidas Copas or some of those old school brands like Diadora or Lotto.
