Another post, another if you ain't first you're last response. To any parents thinking about ODP. It has its place. It's not top top competition but it's good. Creates a space for your kid to experience different coaching and experiences away from their team. Kid can be put in different positions and sceneries they might not normally be in. We tried it out this year and if other opportunities didn't arise we would be doing it again next season. Don't listen to the noise here and try it out for yourself.

She enjoys it, gets to play a lot of games, and this past weekend at their tournament they had quite a few college scouts at the games. Not sure what other programs you know of that are free that get my kid in front of scouts, if you could post them, that would be helpful.

ODP was a complete disaster this year. Ds age had about 55 players on roster but had difficulty fielding teams all year. You'd think the 1 event that most would show for is Eastern but again one team had to have volunteers to even have a bench and her own team had 13-14 show for the games but not all the same players.

Doesn't matter anyway as Erika had put out the how invites work:
Additionally, we'd like to clarify the selection process for the East Region ID Camp. There are three main avenues through which players may be selected:
1) Our coaches have been closely monitoring our players and providing evaluations following each event/training. Utilizing these evaluations, which include attendance records, each coach will nominate up to 10 players from each age group who have demonstrated outstanding performance throughout the year and show potential to become National ODP Players.
2) Scouts will be present at the East Region Tournament to assess players, providing an alternative route for selection. Players may be chosen through this process even if they were not initially selected by their NJ ODP Coach.
3) On some instances the East-Region and USYS do select players that were selected and performed well at the Inter-Regional and ODP National team level.
Pay attention to #3 as this is how they justified placing 6 players who didn't go to the camp ID on the NE ODP roster for the 08s last year. I will call it now, a certain player (SC) who has been on the Eastern team for a few years who didn't do ODP this year but her father works with ODP as a board member and coach will get an invite to the team again without going to the eastern camp.

Must be nice to not have to pay for ODP or show up and still get chosen. She’s a great kid and excellent player, but still…
