With all due respect there is a big difference btwn referencing players born in the first qtr of the year versus referencing players born in early Jan days. The merits of the study is debatable without combing through the data supporting its conclusions but goes without saying most kids born in 1st qtr of any year will invariably mature faster than kids born in the last or 4th qtr of that same year.

Based on the excerpt below from your shared article this phenomenon does not hold constant. At some point all players hit their maturity milestone then skills/ hardwork/ perseverance NOT birth month or qtr takes over in dictating their future in the sport.

Oh yes, absolutely. But was in response to an exchange about an 11yo- it’s not dim witted to offer that being born in early Jan may have provided an additional ‘leg up’ for someone who is already a very gifted athlete. Not taking anything away from that!

Not the poster you are responding to, but they are correct statistically. Players born in the first quarter of the year are over represented at elite and pro levels. Multiple reasons for this. One of these include being more likely to have opportunities like playing up in their early training years, because of their advanced physical and psychological age (as compared to players born in the last quarter). Educate yourself before reacting defensively.

What a dimwitted comment!!! So all kids born in early Jan become SUPER Players on the pitch? We should quit looking for excuses and appreciate good players when we see them in action. Wish them well and encourage our kids to emulate them.

What difference does it make? I didn't see any kid with any future in soccer all weekend. What I did see was a lot of mediocrity.

Uhhh, If you actually read the comment, I said 2 of them shouldn’t be playing with 12s. Ie, they are too skilled to be playing with 12s, and they belong on an 11 team. Take a minute to read and people might take your contributions more seriously.

Most A team players are good enough to play up at MF and elsewhere. Take a look around and you will come to that conclusion pretty quickly. Question should be are they making a consistent impact while playing up?

My point? That you can’t claim best 2012 team in NJ including players not on the team. I do know the situation. They’ve played up and gotten special treatment for years. It never goes well when a club tries to revoke this and put players back on age. Two of them have no business playing with 12s anyhow, developmentally it would be detrimental for all involved. So ok, maybe if including 4 guest players, it would be competitive against FA or these PA teams. But in reality the actual team is not better. Good, yes. But didn’t make finals of the second bracket this weekend. So just take a deep breath. Isn’t it annoying for you anyhow when the ringers get called in and the rest of the team sits a lot more, and gets far less touches in the game? Is winning worth it, when it hurts the development of the rest of the regular team members?

True that you can’t claim the best team in NJ including players not on the team. The current team is not better than FA but with the 4 players it would make the game competitive. You can’t really talk about this weekends results in the Delco Cup. Real 2012’s losing 6-1 to FC Delco a team that they tied to 1-1 just last month. FA Silver 2012’s lost 6-0 to Keystone 2012’s a team who lost to WC 5-1. Penn Fusion’s 2013’s lost 3-0 to a team they won 4-2 just 2 months ago. This years FC Delco Cup has been crazy.
