What are you talking about? harm?
There is no future for women’s soccer. It’s a job that pays less than Starbucks. Majority of parents and smart kids know this. Maybe will get kid a poor student into a slightly better college, just maybe. If 1 in the entire tri-state ends up pro great and they better have a trust fund.
it’s not men’s basketball where millions are on the line mate.

Unfortunately, very few people are "smart." The majority are stupid, as evidenced by the abysmal test performance of the majority of students and the moronic comments made by scores of parents on the sidelines at games.

I'll just make one assumption - it is true that a coach made players cry. If this is a fact, then regardless of the context, this was an example of a very poor leadership, poor game and long term strategy, and just making a serious mistake as an adult. You want to inspire your players and go to "war" for you and each other even when down 5 nil, not be a group of sad individuals who can't wait for the game to be over. Be proud of each other and chop at the bit for the next game, not getting traumatized by an older adult. This has nothing to do with modern kids not being tough enough. They are plenty tough and have to deal with a different type of pressure that none of us had to even think about growing up. Every generation has their challenges, so lets not call them soft.

At the same time, lets not vilify coach without having been in their shoes. I hope this was a mistake, and not a pattern. I also hope that the coach learns from this. We all make mistakes and say things that upset, offend, etc. others. What we do after is what separates leaders from the rest.

Nice post. Understanding Gen Z and adjusting to their needs and style is what separates a coach from a good, successful one. Those that think they should be coaching like they did in "their day" - will struggle.

Another reason kids today can't cope. They have never had to.

How does one make someone else cry? Is it not the emotion of the person crying that is the cause of the tears? How would one even know if what was said "warranted" tears at all?

I told my daughter before prom she looked beautiful and she started crying. Told her another time she couldn't have the car and she cried.

                    Was I the a-h01e?

These are youth soccer coaches. Adults that are choosing to work with children for money. There are lots of jobs out there- soccer ones that don’t include kids. If you choose to work with kids you have be able to control yourself. Otherwise find another job.

These adults that choose to work with kids for money should also be monitored for unusual behaviors like they do at schools

And how exactly does anyone know they didn't "control themselves"? Kids cry because they don't get the desert or phone they want. Is that out of control parenting to you?

And we all see how well that works out. Schools are a freak show these days.

Really? lol what do you think your parents generation said about your generation? And your grandparents said about your parents? This view as old as world and just as incorrect. Did you have this crazy competition in sports growing up? How about social media pressure? Or what about competition to get into a good college? Or being able to afford it? I am in my 50’s and went through some tough times in my youth, but I am not gonna say kids cannot cope. They have different challenges than my generation.

                                Famous quotes by Kelly Sims:

"I don't give a ****, cry all you want" - after players were upset that they lost a game that should have won.
"Be the best player you can be on the bench" - to justify after giving offers, and parents paying, players were all the sudden playing much less, sometimes not all so that the favorites who did not play well, played the whole game.
"You all sucked today" - after losing to a team, that all other teams easily beat at Jeff cup.

Yes players are a bit sensitive these days, for whatever reason. But the bigger issue is that what happened during the games are the work of Kelly Sims. She is an an awful coach. Image being a 13 year old and a coach constantly putting you down then blaming you for not winning games. But her favorites can make all the mistakes in the world and have support. You would cry too. Kids know better, and it's why all the teams that Kelly is leading are collapsing and can't win.
