I care how and so does my D. One day you may understand when yours can’t play at the next level.

Don’t ever kid yourself or your child. The next level in business or sports is about winning. You must develop but if you don’t know how to win you can get to the next level. Winning is important. You must have a mantle full of participation trophies!

Winning at these ages is irrelevant. Most of the teams that win now and at younger ages are winning due to dominant early bloomers or tactics that won’t work at higher levels. Go watch an ECNL national championship and let me know if those teams play kick and run. You can view the games on the ECNL website if you want to see for yourself. If you desire u9-u12 edp medals and usys trophies, for your ego and IG posts keep telling your kid to play kick and run. Keep telling them that winning is the most important thing at these ages. If you want to win a high level national championship and your kid wants to advance to higher levels, learn the details of the game and to execute the skills needed to consistently play it well at a high level. Big kicks and bad decisions aren’t the answer. So many parents just don’t get it.

It's great that there are teams playing "good" possession based soccer at u11 already, but don't just write off the rest of the teams as only knowing how to play kick and run. Kids are weird at this age. They might be learning possession at practice and executing it well there, but as soon as the whistle blows for a game they just dump and chase. Building confidence and competence with the ball and the relationship with teammates is a process. Doesn't help when parents are yelling "BOOT IT!" or "SEND IT!" every time they touch the ball either...

Most parents have no idea what quality soccer looks like.

How about first touch, body shape, vision, positional discipline, passing accuracy, speed of play, sportsmanship, unselfishness, technique, athleticism. Nahhhh just boot that ball long and far and we will pray and cheer!!! Great ball!!!! Amazing goal!!!! In reality, it’s trash.

The entire reason for the BUILD OUT line in games at the U8, U9 and U10 ages is to give the kids the extra time needed to BUILD play OUT of the back instead of just kicking it. It is for possesion based development. If you played for a club that didnt utilize that and just kicked it out of the back long, you put your child at a huge disadvantage. The scores in EDP are also hidden at these ages so teams can learn to develop with out the fear of people thinking the results actually matter. Lots of times at the younger ages the better team doesnt win the game. They are learning and developing the skills needed for the correct play style to succeed.

Agree 100%. The rankings are part of the issue. Clubs and coaches want to win tournaments at early ages because rankings are calculated based on tournament results. They also recruit parents/kids based on winning which brings in the $$$ for the owners. All these clubs use wins for social media marketing as we have all seen. It’s a broken system so parents need to focus on the development if their kid wants a future in the sport. Kick and run wins are meaningless and if you can’t play well at older ages, inevitable kick and run no longer wins, the club will cut you or put you on the lower end teams. That’s when you will understand how dumb you were thinking winning matters at these ages.

You all make great points and I could agree more. But on top I must add that you need to breed winning. In school in sports and in business. Not fanatically but it matters. And if you don’t teach it early it could be over looked. At a young age it isn’t everything. I learned that the hard way with my own child by emphasizing it too much but it is important and shouldn’t be over looked. Just my two cents. We need to weave it in with how to play the game and game correctly and with a high moral character. But winning matters , in life and everywhere.

I also agree with the importance of development as complete players. I don't however agree that there is one right way, or that one style is "better soccer". I certainly don't agree with adults disparaging teams of 11 year old girls because they play a different style than you deem "best." Be better than this.

stop trying to justify kick and run it’s never the right way to play and don’t say it’s direct because that would be a guise.

You guys are annoying. Say the same **** over and over again for 145 pages. Can we start a new, meaningful chat to help support and not tear down everyone? It is all parents bashing how others play the sport 99% of them never ever played in their life....I'm sure you are the same parents that are ruining your child's experience as well. It's frightening.
