due to the club requirement, we paid the first payment.

Now she just received offer from another club for their first team that she did tryouts in april, this team has a better coach and the this team is also highly ranked with technically strong players. D prefer to play for this team.

I know the payment already made is non refundalbe, but my question is do the current club will make us pay the remaining payments for the season if we decided to join another team?

    Please provide your feedback.

    Thank you so much.
Be honest with the DOC as to why your daughter is not happy. You are the customer so if they are not delivering the goods they have every right to refund your deposit. You also can dispute it with your credit card. Good Luck!

I did pay it. I didn’t want the hassle of small claims court and I would likely lose as I did agree to the contract. I was frustrated at the full fee because of the changes that happened, promised stuff and once I paid there was no changes. I was happy to lose the deposit, because I accepted the spot and at the time based on the promises we didn’t want to leave. But the new club were great throughout the process. I know it’s slightly different to the OP situation, but thought I would share.

When paying the first deposit, you sign paperwork that is a binding contract. There is language saying you have to pay no matter what. Every Club does this so they can get their money if you change your mind. If you try to go to court you will lose. Try to negotiate but the Club does not have to give you a break.

It’s usually bad business if they don’t. Parents talk and clubs that take a hard line will usually end up losing far more in the long run. For what? Because a child changed their mind.

Yeah they don't have to but nearly all let you out of the contract. Again, not a good look going after families for money. You may not get the deposit back.

Almost the same problem here. The kid wants to go to a better team. The current club no refund for the deposit and charging
for the full amount of money, although that’s just April. The current team is still recruiting and not formed yet.

Anyone tried NJ consumer protection affairs dept for help?

Put a claim on your credit card. If they want FULL payment.. the club is only after your money. No club should be asking FULL payment. Clubs I know are monthly payments. Good luck!

Thx! Will try to do so. Seems that I can even dispute the deposit payment on credit card. It’s very unfair for the refund policy in the soccer club biz..like this
