Please help me understand something about the White Program. My D tried out for PDA but we weren't offered a position on ECNL so we decided to stay with our town team. Prior to tryouts I followed advice on TS and we went to watch all the teams she wanted to tryout for games and practices. At the games and practice we went to for white, we were impressed. The coach's style was one we liked, possession based, and we thought he was a good coach. If we received an offer for white we probably would have accepted it.

So here's what I don't understand. The White program plays in the same league as the blue program. They even play each other. They also have the same opportunity to play in front of college coaches as blue. Wouldn't the best way to showcase yourself for blue would be to play in same league and against them? Wouldn't helping white win and getting to Nationals and top bracket showcases also help your daughter be recruited? If what people say is true that PDA doesn't care about the White program, why wouldn't they want to put every surrounding club out of business? If you're constantly sending 2 teams to the Nationals in every age group and numerous girls to college. No other club could compete and you'd constantly have the best players.

Truth be told, there simply isn't enough talent that migrates to PDA that would make two teams super competitive in the ECNL league. Also, the constant complaint is that when the white team gets lucky and develops or acquires a strong team at a certain age group, the player becomes ripe pickings for the blue team. If Blue is in search of an outside back and white has a strong one, they will look to shift that player to blue team. If a girl on white develops into a good solid striker, blue would have the first option on that player come tryout time. PDA's business model is more about supporting the blue franchise rather than building two strong teams. PDA gets its accolades on the national stage from fielding the strongest blue teams possible per age group and because of this, the teams are treated differently. PDA Blue teams usually get the best coaches and are supported heavily by the Rutgers program. because of this support practices are more structured, and the feel is more professional. A blue player usually looks down on having to transfer to white, even if it means more time and possibly more exposure on the field. The parents know that even though they are in the same league as Blue, the training and attention to detail during practices will not be as challenging or instructive.

SN, thank you. I completely understand everything you wrote. I guess it's the thought of being on the B team that gets people. In my opinion, I'd have my daughter play for white and try to get to blue. I feel that if PDA cared more about White, the whole program would sell itself. MF, CSA, STA and NJ Premier are all competitive in their leagues. If they cared more about White, they could get those girls to switch. From watching what I watched in games and practices, it wasn't the coaches, I felt they didn't have the talent. If they could get the talent, they could be more competitive. I guess in my eyes, show a coach how good you are by playing against that coach and proving it. If PDA could put out a 1st and 3rd or 4th place in every age group, those top players at these other clubs would come too. Especially to play ECNL. Just my thought.

I wasn't saying White goes to Nationals. My question was why don't PDA put more into white to get 2 teams to Nationals. Why don't players want to play for White.

I'm not a hater. I didn't think my d was that good but she wanted to tryout cause her friends were. She was offered Regional and we didn't accept. I don't have any negative feelings towards PDA. I just read on here and decided to ask the question of why?
