    Head coach

What is worst a coaching over coaching or coach just sitting they not saying a word in a game

    #2
I think not saying a word is way worse. It appears like the coach doesn't even want to be there, let alone care about the game or players on the team. Would rather have a bit to much passion verse none.

Having played for coaches with both styles, I would say not saying a word is worse. To me it equated to not caring while I at least knew the coach over-coaching was concerned with the game.

Sime coaches take the new philosophy to heart - let the players play/act/decide all on their own. Teach in practice, let the games be the exam - use next practice to go over results. Now if they don't say anything at practice either about the game and moments - that would be weird.

Agreed. Coaches screaming are just a side show.

Over coaching is the answer. Saying nothing at all isn’t good either, but it’s better than yelling the entire game. Ideally there is a balance somewhere in the middle where you hear the coach every so often and the rest of the time they’re paying attention to the game.

Screaming insults during a game is not coaching. Coach during practice and let the kids play on match day.

Agree but sitting there like a statue is also a problem some feedback or input during a game can be said

Over coaching tells me the coach has no faith in their players, doesn’t allow them or want them to think for themselves- which may end up in a mistake, and isn’t confident in their own training. A coach that is developing players will coach quietly, pull a player and talk on the sideline and send back in or give minimal instruction during the game. A joystick coach serves no purpose other than looking like a fool.

Well do you really think a kid is processing anything the coach is screaming onto the pitch. Its more of a distraction when the kid stops to listen. Secondly are the coaches tipping their hats to what the game plan is to the opposing teams? Mistakes should be acknowledged in practice. A coach can be enthusiastic and say good work, nice job, or unlucky get it next time. To critique and criticize during the game is absolutely narcissistic

Does the coach ignore the kids who come off for substitutes or do they address them when they are on the sideline and not just yell like a lunatic throughout the game?

Just because a coach isn't yelling doesn't mean they aren't communicating with the players about their play/strategy etc.
