NY ODP weeds out the good from the mediocre over many tryout rounds. They just have one team per age group and that's the way it should be.

No, all ECNL clubs do not operate the same way. Some are 2 days a week and maybe a game on the weekend. Not going to name the club but they also shy away from most tournaments as well at certain ages.

The issues are that mostly the parents overcommit with multiple obligations and skip ODP regularly and players don’t tell or are not allowed by club coach to miss a club event for ODP. The schedule is shared months in advance and it’s communicated to all regularly but ultimately it’s considered secondary and not a top priority like it was x years ago. The program is strong, educational, competitive, and fun but the lack of fully committed players/parents causes issues. Not sure why parents embark on a $1k+ program and treat it as optional. My kids fully enjoyed ODP over the years and looked forward to it. They made friends and had good coaches. To each his own but if you commit, then take it seriously. What’s the point of showing up whenever you like?

The GA league is much more flexible so doing ODP is feasible. ODP Nice addition to the resume to attract attention from top colleges. If you can fit it’s very worth the time.
