it’s not a scouting event mate. And no one is freaking out - so please don’t ruin this civil dialogue. Majority of the current USWNT played U20.

Look at some of the players that are regularly starting in the midfield now (Horan, Lavelle, Sanchez,...) These are very technically gifted players who can (and do) compete with the best in the world. The youth teams are still very much scouted based on physicality and speed, which is why they struggle in international competitions. Not sure what it will take for changes to be passed down to these levels. It may take a few more years.

Yep, in the meantime size and speed is the ticket for domestic college soccer. It may not be pretty but as long as we only have to play against ourselves, it is effective and will mirror our pay to play system in the US.

no idea what gave you that impression. the nature of most teams is players make it when their performances warrant it. Problem in the USA is who decides and based on what. go ask the players if they think the purpose was to support 3 or 4 handpicked players candidacy for the full team. If it was, no wonder they perform so poorly AS A TEAM

Everyone knows it and they are all fighting for those spots.
I wonder why US players think beating two or three players is the ticket to the National team. Wouldn't it be great if they thought quick passing and movement was the key to making the National team. The u20 game would be better instantly-instead, they do what they think will get them rewarded. Why not, it's worked for them their whole lives. If we just changed that one aspect of scouting, I dare say, we might just have a different group of players out there.

It happens at every level in all sports. And btw that type of play is horrendously contagious. The coach could simply put a halt to it. It’s not very hard when the coach is 100% in control of the PT.
