There are also politics on the boys side,. like catering for players, you know, that are sons of college coaches although they are not very talented.. but gotta keep that connection going!!

MLS is the A league for boys - and I mean the pros, not the pay to play MLSN clubs. You are right that losing a few players to the pro clubs can throw off a team but that happens at all the MLSN clubs. They're supposed to be the feeder clubs to the pro teams
ECNL is the A league for girls. A few might want to go pro, even fewer actually will.

Plus some clubs are more "boys" or "girls" clubs. Not many do both exceptionally well

PDA boys have a long list of college signings to major programs, just as many as the girls. It is definitely the program with the most college-bound players around. The only players who choose to go to RB or Philly Union are the ones offered the fast track to first team. Otherwise many players and their parents opt for their son to stay at PDA and go the college route. Making 35-40k on a usl team doesn’t do as much for a person as a degree from a university in the long run.

Exactly this, but I do see this need of being the feeder club to the pro teams beneficial only to the handful of players that eventually move up, the rest of the players end up being just bodies, playground for pro prospects.

Same with the girls - the end game isn't great. The fact that Rodman got the largest contract in history at $1M over 4 years is a joke. Also the boys from the US don't make it very far - we can count the successful ones on 1 hand. Just play enjoy and use soccer if you can to get into a better college.

It's a very short history and heading in the right direction. I tell everyone don't complain about the low wages go to the stadium and watch a game and bring someone with you, that's the only way to fix it.

Needs a little more than that. Need big sponsor dollars, needs access to games on network TV, ad dollars. Without that, it remains the same.

It starts with butts in seats. Then you can push the big sponsors.

It's a combination. Need right broadcast as well to get the butts in seats.

                        For comparison,

PDA boys U16 made the semi-finals in the MLSNext Cup 2021 (losing in a shootout)
PDA boys U17 made the finals in the MLSNext Cup 2021 against Orlando City FC
PDA boys U18 made the quarter finals in the MLSNext Cup 2021

Considering they are playing against MLS "pro" programs, it's a pretty good performance for a small club from NJ. It's a shame they lose players to RB.

Think the girls program and boys programs should find a way to work together. Mix up coaches, set up pick-up games, etc.

Not a shame it should be a goal to send kids to pro teams. It's not about the teams it's about the individual. If PDA can produce players that eventually go pro than they are doing their job. The product is the player not the trophy.

Yes it's how the system is supposed to work. Higher potential players move to the pro clubs. Really it happens all over. Better players move to the better teams and leagues, especially in middle school or 9th grade. Many strong teams u11-u14 lose a few top players to MLS or ECNL and they're badly weakened.
